Choices... Before and After

I saw a commercial the other day and it really resonated with me. It was about making choices and how one good choice can often lead to another. I know that before WLS I often found that if I made 'bad' choice regarding food, I often would often give myself permission to throw in the towel and quit trying to make good choices. I think that the biggest difference for me after WLS is that I'm much more focused on trying to make good choices and much more forgiving when I make a bad choice, realizing that each new choice is a new opportunity to be where I want to be.

Soooo... when you stub your toe and make a less the optimal choice, how do you handle it? Do you handle it any differently after deciding to have WLS?

I know I don't always make the best choices but yes I do notice I am better at it now after WLS than I was before. I do find that I can 'slip' up from time to time and then go right back to 'program' the next time I need to eat. The WLS has made it easier to do that but I am not sure why that should be. I am grateful I have the tool to work with though cause otherwise I would still be fat and sickly like before. I am so glad I am not sickly anymore.

Ann,

I don't think it's about always making the best choice. I think it's about balance and we didn't have that before and we are gaining our sense of balance with the help of our tool, our support groups, family, etc... I am not sure why we are more able to get that balance post WLS. I know I tried and tried before, without success. I think that the 'forced' compliance for a number of months helped. I think that getting the bulk of the weight off helped... now, if there is a 'problem' it's a small manageable mole hill, not Mt. Everest. I also think that I have a much more balanced, well-rounded approach to it all now. It isn't all or nothing, sometimes my choices now are to have something that some might consider 'forbidden', but it's done as a choice and with awareness. I think that it was that lack of awareness that really did me in and then when I coupled that with not making myself accountable, it was a 'recipe for disaster' for me.

I am so glad that you are working all of your tools to help you be as healthy and happy as possible.

See you soon!

I am a firm believer in success breeding more success. I think this weight loss journey not only helps us physically but gives us a great sense of ourselves and our accomplishments. That being said after going through the start of this journey, as difficult as it was, I hope I will continue to feel positive as the years fade by.
Positive self esteem puts a whole new focus on every part of our life. We react differently to the same situations we were in, and were negative prior. It is a kind of re-birth with rose colored glasses, though we do take off and set them down and forget were we put them ha ha, but it easier to pick them up and try again.
Not sure if this makes sense, but it is nice to feel great about yourself

I would agree that success begets success and it is good to feel good about the decisions you've made the impact those decisions/choices have made on your life... it's impowering and even intoxicating, isn't it?
