wondering if any of you guys experienced anything similiar to what I'm going thru. I'm having quite a bit of cramping and a couple of issues with "watery diarrhea". The only thing I'm drinking is Crystal light and water. I feel so nauseated and can barely tolerate the texture of the Jello. I tried diluted juice but ended up back in the hospital with dumping...........which wasn't pleasant. (Yes it was 100% juice) I just feel like I'm nauseated b/c I have nothing on my stomach other than liquids........this is so frustrating!!! Any suggestions, advice, etc??? Thanks so much!

Hi!  After my surgery, I was not allowed to drink 100% juice.  Even juice that says "no sugar added" has A LOT of sugar - fruit has a lot of natural sugar.  I had to dilute the juice 50/50 water and juice.  Maybe all the sugar from the juice is making you sick?

Hope things get better and hope this help!  Good luck to you!

Are you drinking any protein drinks? The liquids will keep you hydrated, but the protein makes you feel full. Check with your surgeon. Juice has TONS of sugar! I have a low sugar apple juice that I dilute with water. I've also been drinking unsweetened tea with 1 packet of lemonade crystal light and 2 packets Splenda. It's pretty good. Also, sugar free popcicles are amazing. Broth is another good option. I'm on liquids for three weeks, I go back on the 27th to move to soft foods.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. As others have mentioned, you want to steer clear of an 100 percent juices because of the sugar content. Your digestive system is very, very sensitive right now and just cannot handle that much sugar.

To calm your stomach you might try a 'true' chicken broth that is low in fat and relatively low in salt. I often sauteed a bit of onion and garlic when making mine and infused it with carrots and celery. Considering your upset stomach, I'd also infuse it with ginger which tends to calm an upset stomach. Be sure to strain your broth to ensure that it is clear.

I know this part is hard, but it really does get easier. If you are going to be at the monthly support group at Duke please come say hello... I'm told I look like my photo :)

Thanks so much for all of your help!! I bought Crystal Light popsicles and they are working and I also started Decaf Tea sweetened with Splenda and that is also working. Things are looking a little better.........just wish I could battle this "head hunger" a little better! lol!! I move to full liquids on Monday so this will give me a FEW more options and then pureed the week after that. Did anyone eat anything besides the Stage 1/2 baby foods??? Looking for a few options. :)

Also, has anyone experienced dizziness so soon after surgery??

Thanks again!
Wendy

I have experienced the dizziness, especially when I stand too fast after sitting. I have also just been plain EXHAUSTED! My mom had RNY 6 years ago and she keeps reminding me I just had major abdominal surgery. It's easy to forget when you have 6 tiny scars and aren't really experiencing pain. Try to get as much rest as possible and keep hydrated!
