Problem prior to surgery

Let me first say that I am going to ask my doctor this question at my first appt, however, I just wanted to see if anybody had this problem prior to their surgery. I have not had WLS yet, I'm just starting out and am scheduled for my seminar May 14th at Duke.

About a year ago I had my gall bladder taken out due to problems. I had to be readmitted the next day through ER because I was having a bad attack of pancreatistus(sp) my lipase was 22000. Since that incident I haven't had any more problems. I guess I'm kind of scared that if I go through with surgery that it could  set off another attack. Has anybody else had problems with your pancreas and still went through WLS?

Congratulations on making the choice to look into wls.
Keep in mind that your doctor is going to require many preop test long before you set a date.
I know they also adress your gallbladder before surgery meaning you should be sure to mention this at your first appointment.
I feel that many times when we make the chioce to have surgery it is a big step and sometimes we just think ok lets go do it right away but it is not that easy.
You have to have lots of test before hand.
I have no regrets and am so grateful to my surgeon for saving my life and giving me a second chance at life.
I have never been happier in my life than I am at this point and I will be 3 years out in August.

Hi Annie,

Yea, it took me many years to finally make this decision. I guess like many other people I thought I could do it myself. I mean how many diets have we been on? I told my husband that I keep losing the weight but it keeps finding me.......he suggested next time not leave a forwarding address.

That being said, I noticed your from Pittsboro too, it's a shame that we lost our poor court house huh? It looks so sad every time I drive by.

Anyway, see ya around,
Sherry

I go to a great support group every third Saturday of the month in Raliegh many of the members on this message board attend.you can read about the group at http://www.meetup.com/NC-WLS/
I would hope you would feel among friends there.

It is so sad about the courthouse I just could not belive it when a friend of mine called me and said turn on the news OMG.
If you ever want to get together and have some coffee and talk about the surgery I will PM you my numbers and email.

I don't have any wisdom to send your way on this. Just wanted to offer my support. I like how you said you'd be asking your doctor at your appointment. I tended to keep a notebook with me and jot down random things  (thoughts and questions) that came up at those weird middle of the night times.  It's fun to look back at them nearly 2 years later.

Good Luck!!

Hi there I had my gallbladder taken out in 1990 and I also have since had several pancreatitis attacks and hospital stays due to this, I had Gastric Bypass Surgery on March 15th and have
had no problems at all. I was told that the Lap Band was not a option for me due to the Reflux and Pancreatitis attacks. Good Luck with what ever choice you make.

Thank you for replying. I was beginning to think I was the only out there with this problem. I would have to say that this is my biggest concern with the surgery. Glad to hear your good.
