Do any of the shows you think may be health related appeal to you?
So…to get back into my exercise routine, I put a DVR in the room with the treadmill and elliptical. Now I can choose between music or TV to help keep me going.
I am not much of a reality TV fan, but I am finding most shows nowadays have some ‘reality’ written in to a degree.
I love Ruby. Lot of extra ‘drama’ for reality TV, but she always gets to the heart of her (and my) struggle at some point.
I love Celebrity Fit Club. I know there is a lot of ‘scripted’ drama but you can clearly see these folks deemed celebrities are just regular folks with struggles like anybody else. They come up with the hardest challenges and I am always saying ‘nope – would not be me’. I have watched 1/3 of the season finale. Cannot wait to see who won (don’t tell me!). Worked out on the elliptical this morning, but I am planning to do some more tonight just to finish watching the show. How is that for motivation! (rule in the room is you must workout to watch TV).
I started watching Kirstie Alley’s Big Life (I am sure I butchered her name but you know who I am talking about). After 3 episodes, I am not getting any motivation from this show at all. She bashes herself constantly, which I certainly can relate too but I have not seen any real effort to make a change. There is about 2 minutes of effort and the rest is more a peek into her daily life whatever it is that day versus a serious objective to get healthy.
My next shows to tape are:
Biggest Loser
Discovery Health Challenge
So, share with me which shows are or have been a help to you or just plain turned you off!

I'm just now starting out on my journey. I finally decided that enough is enough after going to the orthopedic doctor 2 weeks ago and told that my knees can't take the weight. That if I don't lose the weight within the next year or two I can look forward to a double knee replacement. Yuk!!
Anyway, I wasn't sure which doctor to see and since my ortho is in Durham and I live in Pittsboro he suggested Duke. I called and reserved a spot at the seminar at the end of May. I was also looking at the doctors out there and kinda decided I would see Dr Aurora. Then today I started reading the post and saw that she was your doctor also so long story short, I was wondering how she was, if you were happy with everything you went through. I also saw people that were posting things about Duke that they weren't happy with, do you have comments about that? Like I said, I'm new at this and need all the info I can get.
Thanks
Sherry
I injured my knee jogging last year so I unfortunately know knee pain all to well! I can understand trying to avoid replacing them.
I had surgery almost 4 years ago, so the staff and some of their processes have changed. Most of the support staff I worked with are gone, except for the major players I had:
Surgeon - Dr Pryor
Psych - Dr Friedman
Nut - Patrick
All 3 were great for me. The office staff at that time was pretty overwhelmed and most of the work fell on Beth. She was an absolute doll (she is gone too)! The only hard time I had was my file was in medical review for 8 weeks. Have no clue why, so the waiting was hard. Other than that, my experience has been good. That is one reason I have not contributed much to the threads where some folks are having problems. My only advice is ask plenty of questions and be prepared to follow-up to keep the process moving e.g. call and verify test results are received and sent to the right person.
Dr Pryor was great and I have plenty of stories to tell! She was attentive and patient and answered my hundreds and hundreds of questions. You will find others here who also had a good experience with their doctors at Duke.
Ask me anything you want and I will be glad to share.

The health shows are fine... I wish One Big Happy Family would come back on... I miss that NC family! I also like Big Medicine. I too watch Ruby, Celebrity Fit Club and Biggest Loser.
Sometimes I get inspiration, and sometimes it is just pure entertainment... If it is not fun to me, then I don'****ch it long!
Hey I forgot about Big Medicine and One Big Happy Family!
One Big Happy Family was more entertainment for me, so I get it. I think I like that that whole family is overweight. All the skinny genes in my family smacked everyone else in the face and skipped me altogether!
I have always liked Kirstie Alley so I am not sure why she is not entertaining me???
Big Medicine is great. I will add that to my list.
