looking for ideas
I am going tomorrow for my pre op visit. I have met with the dietician yesterday, but there was so much info. and now I am feeling confused. I will be having Lap-Band, so I am looking for products that taste good, and how you have made pureed foods taste a bit better. I want to go ahead and begin planning for these stages.
I appreciate all your ideas and recipes. I too will be trying different things to share, and I look forward to being helpful to others.
Thank you in advance,
PMartin

What is your surgeon's timeframe on when you can advance to the next food? I found that I overbought and over planned my meals in the 6 weeks after post op.
Protein Shakes- The only ones I found I liked were Adkins Advantage, vanilla and ones I made myself with some vanilla whey powder and milk (from CVS). I bought a very small bag of the powder and I'm 6 months out and still have some left. When I advanced to full liquids I most often mixed protein powder in with SF instant pudding that I made with skim milk. Vitamin World on Six Forks lets you buy individual pre-made shakes if you want to try some out during pre-op before you invest in much. Like I said, I didn't use nearly as much stuff as I thought.
Yogurt- I stuck mostly to yoplait, ones with no chunks in them like cinamon bun... saw a red velvet cake flavor recently, might give that a try
Purees- I bought a Ninja at Kohls to do my pureeing, worked better than my kitchen aid food processor. Some things I liked:
Greek Yogurt mixed with cottage cheese, vanilla and honey
canned/rotisserie chicken pureed with:
-------- homemade chicken stock or store bought
--------salsa
--------pesto
--------marinara
--------mayo or hummus for a chicken salad
Purees only lasted a few weeks and these got me through it, plus tuna and store bought hummus. I love hummus and could eat it with a spoon. My favorite are Sabra and Trader Joe's Original (less fat than Sabra)
It all sounded very intimidating when I went through it with doctors and nutritionist... but it all went by suprisingly quickly.

Thank you for the information. It is a bit overwhelming. and I guess I am still in shock that the ins. approved it so quickly, as well as this whole process appears to be going FAST, being that I attended the seminar almost 2 weeks ago.
I have not tried the plain hummus, I do love the mediterrian but I am sure that will be out of the question. I do like the atkins advantage. I guess I need to sit down and lay out the plan to make sure that I have it right. The Clear liquids are self explainitory, it is when I get into the mushy stuff. I want to make sure I do this right.
I appreciate your help, thanks again
