How long do you have to be with a insurance company before you are able to apply for surgery?
Dear E,
I don't know the answer to that question. I wonder if you cross post this to the Main, Insurance and RNY forum if you might get an answer because you'd be casting a wider net.
I believe that it will vary from insurance policy to insurance policy, that you might have variances between policies within a given plan because the policies can be written with specific exclusions and inclusions. You should be able to contact the benefit number for plan and ask them what their policies are regarding bariatric surgery... qualifications, limitations, etc...

HI,
I work for a Health Insurance company and our policy is that once the policy is effective all benefits are effective. For example if you have coverage for eye glasses on the policy and the policy started on 01/01/2010 then you can go that day and get glasses. Although I don't work for the company you are insured with I would assume it would be the same. PLEASE call your customer service number and ask one of the customer service reps tho, be sure and ask them how it will be covered and what the medical policy is on it and how you can get a copy of it so you and your Dr know what you have to done in order for it to be approved.
I know that with BCBSNC there are several cir****tances that you have meet prior to being approved for the actual surgery.
Hope this helped!
