High blood pressure again... I thought I had solved that one..

I just wanted to see if anyone else has had high blood pressure after having lost weight.  I was on BP meds prior to WLS and within a month I was off all my meds.  All my BPs have been normal until I went for my 2 year follow up with Dr. Chapman about a month ago.  I have been checking it at home and it's running in the 150s/90s range.  Today I went for my preop with the plastic surgeon for my LBL  which is in less than 2 weeks.  My BP was 173/98!  I know I'm under a lot of stress right now trying to get "everything" done before my surgery, so I had just chalked it up to that.  Well, the PS Surgeon wants me to have something doing about the BP before my surgery, so I have an apt with my PCP on Monday and I'm sure he will put me back on meds again.

This is really frustrating, but I know it's necessary to make sure I don't run into other problems...  I just was so happy to be off all my pre WLS drugs.

anyone else had this problem after you've lost your weight?

Hi Alice,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing elevated BPs, but I'm glad that it was diagnosed and that you are having it managed. While I know that you were delighted to have this issue checked off after your surgery, rremember that there are plenty of normal sized people that have BP issues, so it may not be directly related to, but exaserbated by excess weight. I'm glad you don't have the excess weight making the BP issue worse and I hope that once life calms down again,  your BP will return to a more normal range. In the meantime, I'm glad that there are meds that can help you get control of it.

Wishing you all the best and good health,

Barbara

Yes Alice, I have the same problem. My surgeon said it does happen. Family history ect. I am on  a BP patch since we can not absorb the pills the way they need to be to be affective.
