Surgery is over!

Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers during my surgery! It really went well after the first night> There was s mix up in my post-op pain medication orders and I went 3 hours without any pain meds, then my IV infiltrated ( My morphine was going in my tissue and not in my vein) so it took another 2 hours before anyone could restart my IV but after several sticks they finally got it in.  Needless to say it was a rough night. This is actually the first time I have felt like getting on the computer because I have been sooo tired. I got on the scales this morning (I know) and I don't know if this is a normal amount but I have lost 16 pounds in the last 8 days! I am working really hard to get my water and protein in. My daughter asked me did I regret the surgery and even after all I went through, I  easily said no not at all!

Glad things seem to be going smoothly now.  It's tough when you feel so weak and doped up that you really can't put up much of a fight if you're not comfortable or need something.  So, you're home now?  Or are you messaging from the hospital?  Don't be surprised if you become a "scale junkie" like me.  I've just gotta get on those scales at least once a day.  The downside to this is seeing the scale creep UP a few ounces before it goes down later on.  Remember, the name of the game is patience.  Keep telling ME that, okay?!?

Hi Connie,

Welcome to the Loser's Bench. I'm sorry that you had a rough start, but I'm glad to hear that you are doing well now. Like you, I dropped weight like a stone during the first 10 days, then I hit a wall! I didn't lose another lb for about 10 days. I share this with you because it is very common to hit your first stall somewhere between 10 days and 4 weeks and it can last anywhere from a week to a few weeks, but take heart because eventually your surgery will win the battle of the bulge and you will start moving south again. Also if you haven't taken photos and measurements yet, please be sure to do soon. It really helps as you try to get your head around all of the changes that are occuring. As a matter of a fact, I had lunch with a dear friend today who had her surgery a few months ago and she said she wished she had been taking photos and measurements regularly.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara
