Annie, I love reading your post...they are always to full of hope and anticipation. You have done such a great job and come a long way. I hope you get to hour best goal you deserve it. I want to ride those mules too. When we were at the Grand Canyon, I wanted to do that also. I am at 243 now and at most stables where you rent horses there is a 250 pound  weight limit. But my horses ginger (Which I no longer have) carried me ( at 288 lbs) all over the mountains in Boone NC and we both survived. I have been having long talks with Chief ans Dundee about my riding them in the near future. They seem to be Ok with the idea.  My daughter on the other hand think I am fragil and will get hurt. But I' ve been riding since I was 3 years old and don't think I ahve forgot. Sorry I got off topic but I love horses. Annie Keep up the good work and you are inspiring me to do this to.  Our Dreams will come true. Myrtis

Hi Myrtis, To be able to ride a horse or a mule is a goal I hope to be able to do. I have been doing lots of reading about The Grand Canyon and so far what I have read is to ride a mule there is a weight limit of 200lbs and to ride a horse the weight limit is 220 and in many cases I read they will weigh you if there is a question. Also there was mention about if you have a fear of heights well sometimes I do. So Lee and I talked about it and he said sometimes there are very steep cliffs going down the canyon so even if I was at the weight limit maybe it might be to scarry for me since I am just now getting over the constant fear of falling. Still I am excited about our trip and am looking forward to it.                                    Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

Annie, Mules are very smart and sure footed. From what I could see there was some steep drops offs but the trail is fairly wide. I don't think it is as bad as in the early days. But from experience you may have a sore rump and legs afterwords. Especially if you have never rode before. You may even want to go up to Moses Cone at Blowing Rock, NC and rent some horses to get a feel for it. That is where we took our horses. It is beautiful with wide trails large enough for wagons. You can ride up to the mansion and down to the apple house and around the lake. I saw a sign which said the weight limite was 250. I'm sure you can call and find out. We rented stalls at the stable for our horses.  You would love it plus Blowing Rock has some neat stores. Myrtis
