Appendix????????

To anyone who has ever had their appendix out.......what were the signs?  How long did it last?????  What brought it on????  What did you think it was at first??????????   Thanks, Nancy

I haven't had any appendix problems, but I did go to the hospital almost 2 weeks ago with a right side pain that I was sure was my appendix.  Turns out it was a kidney stone.  Hurts like HE!!.  Way more than anything I've ever felt. 

Ok Nancy, if you think it could be your appendix acting up do not wait go get it checked out ASAP. A blood test will usally show if something is wrong. You do not want it to burst!!!!! I had mine removed about 7 years ago it was no big deal and they did it with a scope. I was back at the health club one week later.                                        Annie

Most of the time but not always--pain that starts out around the belly button and moves over time to the right lower quadrant of the abdomen.  Pulling your right leg up toward you belly button while lying on your back while cause pain.  It is usually but not always accompanied by vomiting and/or diarrhea.  Some people run little to no fever.  It is really hard to diagnose without blood work and a CT Scan of the lower abdomen.   Intense pain with vomiting, diarrhea, and fever over several hours should be treated medically to rule out a hot appendix.  If you have the same symptoms and it is on the left side don't just casually rule out appendicitis.  Some people (my grandfather and my mother) were built backwards and had their appendix on the left.  My grandfather's ruptured and he was a very sick man for a long time.   My mother was having emergency exploratory surgery thinking that she had an ectopic pregnancy when they found hers.   Hope you are better soon!

12 pm, I'm eating my cheese and cracker lunch.  I read on one of the posts that high protein diet can cause kidney stones.  The hurting feeling is gone and never really transpired into anything this morning, it's similar now to a swollen ovary (but I know they're fine).  I thought I had to fast before drawing blood but think I'll call and ask, maybe this is one of those tests you dont--  I'm sure it's nothing......I'm one of those people who get a hangnail and wonder if it could be a symptom of liver cancer, or something like that.......oh, and no fever......grumbleing in intestines......will keep you posted..........maybe Nancy noodle
