ROTD-Nat'l PEANUT BUTTER DAY! - What's YOUR favorite way to eat it??? Fun SURVEY in...
I'm fat (but not as fat as I was). Part of why I'm fat is because I grew up loving peanut butter and (DUKE'S) mayonnaise sandwiches with bananas on Merita White Bread! Sometimes I'd even put a layer of Lay's potato chips in there for "crunch." YUM YUM I just as well have stuck those slabs of peanut butter laced bread right on my thighs, cause that's where they ended up finding a home. LOL I'm still enjoying them to this day. My favorite "dip" with these is/was Campbell's Vegetable Beef Soup. I don't "dilute" that... never have. But I like to break off pieces of the sandwich and "dip" into the soup juice! DOUBLE YUMMM!
I also LOVE peanut butter and honey sandwiches!
Here are some PB fun facts...
* Did you know that peanut butter was originally created to perform the same function as toothpaste way back in 1880?
* Peanut butter and jelly was a result of World War II. Apparently soldiers were given peanut butter instead of meat due to enforced rationing (and because both are non-perishables). The soldiers added jelly to make it taste better and viola the all American sandwich was born.
* A 2002 survey showed the average American will have eaten 1,500 of the sandwiches before graduating from high school
* Following the regulations stated by the U.S Food and Drug Administration, 2 rodent hairs are allowed in every 100 grams of peanut butter. (Ewww, isn't that gross?!)
* In Denmark peanut butter is called pindakass which translates to peanut cheese. The Dutch government protects the word butter so the peanut butter makers had to improvise and substitute cheese for butter.
* One of Elvis' favorite foods was a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich (has anyone ever tried this?). * Peanut butter accounts for over half of U.S. peanut production, and Americans eat almost 7 pounds of peanuts and peanut butter per capita.
* One acre of peanuts will make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches.
* People who become hysterical when peanut butter sticks to the roof of their mouth have 'arachibutyrophobia'.
* Peanut butter's high protein content draws moisture from your mouth. That's why it sticks to the roof of your mouth.
* It takes about 550 peanuts to make a 12 ounce jar of creamy peanut butter.
* Creamy peanut butter is preferred on the East Coast, Chunky on the West Coast.
* Peanut butter is excellent for removing chewing gum from clothing and hair. (That's because of the oil in it.)
* Eighty three percent of all Americans purchase peanut butter.
* A good source of protein, two tablespoons provides 10 percent of the RDA; it also contains 25 percent of the daily recommended requirement of Vitamin E, as well as niacin, folic acid and fiber.
* Peanuts aren't really nuts at all, they are legumes, in the same family as beans and peas. But even though their physical structure and nutritional benefits resemble legumes, their use in diets and cuisine more resembles nuts.
* Seventy percent of all peanut butter sold is smooth and the remaining thirty percent chunky.

DO YOU PREFER SMOOTH OR CHUNKY?
(I like both, but lean more towards chunky.)

What's Your favorite PB obsession or way(s) to eat it?
I love to do this sometimes when I eat oatmeal:
Easy Peanut Butter Oatmeal
Prepare any flavored instant oatmeal according to package directions. Add one tablespoon peanut butter before serving.
Makes 1 serving.
Peanut Butter Maple Syrup
½ cup maple syrup (or sub SF syrup)
¼ cup peanut butter
Combine syrup and peanut butter in sauce pan. Heat, stirring until smooth and heated through. Serve over pancakes.
I have made thousands of these for parties over the years I have catered. Not only are they kid-friendly, but grown ups love them too. They make a nice healthy snack and are quick to make.
Peanut Butter & Apples on Raisin Bread
raisin bread
peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
leaf lettuce -- torn in small pieces
red and green apples -- cut into thin slices/NOT peeled Trim edges off bread. Cut bread into desired shape with knife or cookie cutter.
Spread on side of bread with peanut butter. Top with piece of lettuce and apple slice. Top with another piece of bread. EAT!
Elvis Presley's Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
Recipe By: Are You Hungry Tonight: Elvis' Favorite Recipes
Serving Size: 1
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 small ripe banana
2 slices white bread
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons butter
In a small bowl, mash banana with the back of a spoon. Toast the bread lightly. Spread the peanut butter on one slice of toast and the mashed banana on the other. Fry the sandwich in melted butter until each side is golden brown. Cut diagonally and serve hot.
NOTES : Elvis loved his “peanut butter and nanner” sandwiches. At a hefty 36 grams of fat, they probably helped do him in.
