Re: Visit with my surgeon

Just thought I'd come on and tell you about my visit with Dr. Demaria and his "fellow".  I met with them on Friday and we had a very good meeting.  They told me what to expect and how they would do several things and gave me an opportunity to ask them all the questions I wanted to.  At first I met with the "fellow".  He was very imformative and knew what he was talking about.  We had a very long talk.  He asked how I came to have my surgery at Duke since we have a weight loss surgery group (2) surgeons here in Hickory.  After quite a while he left to get Dr. Demaria.  It was a pleasure to get to meet the head of the Weight Loss Surgery Team at Duke.  He was very polite, very imformative and really knows his stuff.     He told me that Dr. Kata told him that I really gave it to him with all my questions when he asked me if I had any questions and I told him that I had asked most everything to Dr. Kata.  My surgery is going to be at a High Risk because of my excessively large hiatal hernia and the fact that I had the old fashioned gallbladder surgery many years ago and may have a lot of scar tissue to deal with.  Even with all that I still am very determined to have my surgery!!  It will be the RNY/Lap with the understanding that if they can't get to everything or anything goes wrong they have the option to do the open.  Please pray that I do not have to have the open procedure.  This has been a little long but I just wanted each of you to know where I am and where I have to go.   I am a little bit scared but not afraid.  The Lord has been in this from the very beginning and I wouldn't be doing this if he did not have his Hand on me.  Take care everyone and hope to hear from you soon. Hi Nancy, So happy to hear that you had a positive meeting with your surgeon.  That really helps.  I love my surgeon. You are on your way, girl, and I wish you all the best of experiences.  And you are so right about how God is right there with you all along.  And he will stay there too.

Hi Nancy! It is so good to hear that you had such a wonderful experience at Duke.  I go the 30th of this month to meet with the nut. & for the psych. eval. and all that other fun stuff!  Keep us posted as to how things are progressing! Kim :)

If it helps, I'm one of those folks with a pretty serious hiatal hernia too, so bad that I couldn't get a band and it couldn't be "repaired" during my WLS.  I also have had gall bladder surgery, but that was by lap.  I have scar tissues all over the place from that and other surgeries.  We all have to sign those forms for the "open" surgery in case they get started and have to go that route, but that doesn't happen too often.

It's normal to be "a little bit scared" too.  Keep the faith and remember that the Lord DOES have His hand on you!
