Had my Sleep Study....
Whew! What a night that was!
I went in Thurs. night to Rex for my sleep study. The facility was nice and the nurse was wonderful.
Getting hooked up to all of those "wires", yikes!
Anyhow, I was able to find a comfortable position....although it wasn't in my usual stomach sleeping position. Kinda weird to know that someone is watching and listening to you. I did finally fall asleep around 11pm.
At 1am the nurse came in. I was totally dazed. I asked her, "what did I do?" She said that my breathing was very shallow. We started trying on different masks. First was the one that only goes over your nose. Couldn't do it, I felt like I had to keep opening my mouth to breath. Next, came the "ladies mask" LOL Can you imagine a "Lady Darth Vader"? LOL Like I thought wearing that mask was going to make me feel sexy...LOL Well, we got situated with the full mask on. It felt very strange and I gave it my best shot. Couldn't do it! I felt like I was suffocating and started having anxiety. The nurse came back in and said we'd take it off because she knew I'd never be able to sleep with it on.
Arg, I barely slept with it off either. Might have gotten 3-4 hrs at most.
I really don't know what my outcome is or was...to dazed and sleep deprived. I hope to hear something from my Dr. tomorrow.....
Yes, I believe they did find something but was so sleep deprived....I didn't go into details with her. Sooo very out of character for me! Called Janell today, she said she hadn't seen anything yet but would call them tomorrow to get the scoop. I do remember the nurse saying something about getting a sleeping pill for the next time I come in. I'll need it ! LOL
Aaaaah, yes. The lovely sleep study. I remember it well. I had mine done 7 years ago and have used a CPAP ever since. It is a very creepy feeling, indeed, to know they can see/hear you at all times. I was awake forever, it seemed like, but they said I had 296 "episodes" in the 3 hours I "slept." Then I had to return a week later to be studied while wearing the CPAP. They strapped that sucker on my face so tight I looked like a relief map of the Andes in the morning. "What the...?!?!"
Well, my doctor prescribed one for me and I tried to use it at home, but was too uncomfy. But then I found that the stress on my heart from all the starting & stoppping of my breathing was really taking it's toll. (Causing premature ventrical contractions.) Oy!
Needless to say my CPAP, better known in my house as "my pappy," became my new best friend. Never another heart issue since wearing it.
So, if you can get past the comfort issue, you will be very happy with how you feel after a "real" nights sleep. I never knew I wasn't having one. You just have to adjust it yourself, I think. That's the secret.
You won't be using it long anyway. Once you finally get your surgery and you're on your way, your "pappy" will be a faded memory. (I may have "separation anxiety" from mine, but will overcome that.)
Well, there's my story...not that you asked for it, but there it is anyway. Breathing is your friend!
Happy Monday!
xoxo
Mare

Mare - 296? Holy Kamoly! Girl, I know you felt like a new person after getting your "pappy". I have heard many people say what a difference in their life it has made. Just gotta get over the whole SUFFACATING feeling! LOL I can't imagine how great I'll feel after wearing it...time will tell. Thanks for sharing your story! You and "pappy" have sweet dreams tonight!
Alright Wendy I am glad you did your sleep study.
I know the full face mask looks horrible and not sexy but Mare is so right breathing is our friend and sleep is presious.
Unfortunatly I am not allowed to use my BI-Pap untill saturday but you better belive I am counting the days LOL
When I first started wearing my mask I only put it on after all the lights went out.
So with your sleep study this should go in your favor for surgery.
Since I have sleep apnea my pain meds were reduced in half but they are still effective.
I hope you can get used to a mask and you can adjust it to fit your face.
I have never slept so well in my life since I got my machine and I would fight someone over it I am very protective of my PAPPY.
Annie
See you on the 11th
Annie - Thanks for the reassurance! I'm sure I will come to love my "pappy"....don't know about the hubby love'n "pappy" LOL! He could sleep through a tornado....so the noise shouldn't bother him. The model that they had at Rex sat right on top of the night stand and was actually pretty quite. I should find out what they think this week.
I'm sooo glad that you and Lee are coming on Sat. I can't wait to see ya! Bring some more pictures of your "babies"!
Hi Wendy,
You just might get a suprize on saturday LOL
I am here at the pc with my baby in my camesole sound asleep.
Buddie is quite naked at this stage and we just got back from picking up the food proccessor and juicer and went to petco for fourmula.
Lee just left for HT to buy stuff to try in our new machines.
Progresso Tomato soup is yummmy no chunks LOL
As far as Buddie goes it is a slow process giving him fourmula every 20-30 minutes praying he will make it.
