I have this fear of them rolling me into the sugery room and seeing all the lights and cold instruments I will jump and run. I go for my last appt. on June 22nd and I was going to ask him if they would give me something before I go the the OR.  Do they usually do that anyway or is he going to think I'm crazy??  Jennifer

They better have some STRONG drugs! I already said he better find my 'happy place' before I get there! I think in most cases they can give you something for anxiety.  Good luck.

Most, if not all, anesthesiologists will give you something to relax you prior to surgery.  In anesthesia pre-op half of the patients were asleep when I was wheeled in. Take care. Ellen

My experence was--- I was scared to death,, right up to the morning of the surgery,, but for some reason, that morning I was fine. I do have a RX for Zanx but they will not want anything in your tummy before the surgery, I like you worried I would freak out, but I did not, I was just so ready to lose the weight I did not care when it came down to it. I was awake when I was wheeled into the opr room myself and remember sliding over to the cross like table for the nurses and being told relax , but I had been given some Happy Juice from that wonderful handsome man ( the knock out fellow ) so I was fine. I remember De Melkonian coming in and saying how are you today and are you ready ... with a smile on my face , I was asked to count , I think I made it to 3 , the next thing I remember I was in recovery and very comfortable no pain , but I did have plenty nurses and the that same handsome knock out fellow, it appeared my IV had clasped and they were trying to get another vein to take my IV, in the end after 8 trys, he put a main line in my neck, NOW  remind you , I did not care ,I was not in pain and I was not scared at all, just floating around in my head.  I think we all were a bit freaked before surgery, but HONEY  IT WAS WELL WORTH IT !!!!!! Take care relax, remember the doctor and nurses will take care of you , allow them to do the job they have trained so long for. And above all put your trust in The Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks so much for your post. I really needed that today, since my surgery is tomorrow.

I appreciate it more than I can say.

Jennifer, I have had several surgeries, and when they wheel you in the room, they have all the instruments covered with cloths.  One thing I have found helps me is, look the nurses in the eyes, and focus on their faces, rather than the room.  They are always so nice, and things move very quickly once you are in there.  Tell them you are nervous.  They understand, and will ease you accordingly.  And just remember, I will be there with you!   Keep telling yourself, "Lori is here, Lori is here" We will get thourgh this together surgery buddy! BTW, I called BCBS this morning, and my paperwork was sent in on Friday 6/1.  (Funny that is the same day I emailed Janell to check on it.)  Cross everything!!!! Lori

The anesthesiologist will offer you something to calm you down... in my case... they didnt offer and just did it (I didnt want it!) and I was passed out within seconds... next thing I knew I was in recovery!! Never even got to talk to the surgeon before the surgery because I passed out!! :)

I was given a 'happy pill' while I was in pre-op.  But I was in pre-op for 3 hours, so that may be why, lol. Bridget
