Welcome to Nc.. I moved from Miami florida to Nc now living in Raleigh which isnt very far at all from Sanford.. It really is different from florida, slower, you can slow down and enjoy things here and traffic is sooooo much better.. when I was younger I would always go back to florida because I wanted that fast life I had there.. but now that im alittle older I really appreciate Nc and I wouldnt ever move back to florida altho I do miss it and enjoy visiting Nc is my home now. I hope you love it as much as I do. Kiesha

Bridget -

Welcome to North Carolina! I'm a transplant from CA, but I live in Raleigh NC now. (I lived in Satellite Beach FL for about 5yrs when my dad was in the service.) I understand what you mean about liking the new place you are living in and still having heart tugs for "home."

I read your blog. It looks like you and your husband have taken an amazing journey. I am having my surgery June 5th. I hope to be as successful as you. I look forward to any words of wisdom you may have. I'm sure that you will find others that will provide you with support as well. I'm not sure how much I can provide considering the fact that I'm just starting, but I'm always willing to listen.

I hope that you enjoy your new home. I'm sure that you will find the people welcoming. If you need a beach fix, it's only a couple of hours away. :-)

I haven't ventured down to Sanford yet, but I understand it's lovely. When I get a chance, maybe we can say "Hey" over a cup of tea.

Again, welcome to lovely North Carolina.

B

Hi!  Welcome to NC!  I truly hope that you find it to be home.  As a NC native, and have had the opportunity to travel all over the country, I am still in NC for a reason.  Because I LOVE IT!!! Nonetheless, I have read you blog and checked out your photos.  My starting weight in the same range as your starting weight is.  I am so exicted to see you results.  It is very encouraging for me.  You have accomplished so much and have so much to be proud of.  I would love to talk to you more about your journey.  Have you found a local Dr. yet?   My surgeon is faulous and isn't very far from Sandford.  Dr.  Kenneth Mitchell with The Bariatric Center at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.  He has monthly support groups in Pinehurst and Raleigh.  You are more than welcome to attend any and/or all of them.  Dr. M himself comes to these groups when he can (or has in Raleigh). They are also considered a Center of Execellance.  Keep us informed as you settle in.  I would love to learn more from you! Candice

Hi Candice! I would be happy to chat with you about my experiance.  You can email me or post right here. I have not looked for a local doctor and probably will not.  This might be unpopular but I'm very unconventional about the WLS process.  I think everyone needs support to get through this, and some of us get it in other places.  I have not seen a regular doctor or surgeon since 8 days post-op.  I have kept up with my blood work through a clinic back in FL.  I had the results sent on to my surgeon both times, once with a B-12 deficency that was also handeled at the clinic.  And I have seen a nutritionist but haven't spoken to her in maybe 6 months, as I feel my nutrition is fine at this point. Two days pre-op I had an EKG, blood work, X-ray and general health check-up.  I did not have to go through months and months of dieting, mental analysis, etc that most ins. companies (and surgeons) require.  But I do think it's great that most people do that.   And even though I've never been to a support meeting, I feel I get support in other places.  My husband first and foremost.  My forums second.  I DON'T reccomend anyone else take this route, you have to absolutely do what is best for you.  But I'm just different, lol. Now that I've written a book, you're probably asleep at your pc! Bridget

No way!  It takes A LOT more than that to put me to sleep.  Not sure what sleep is anymore!   Your starting weight is in the same range that I am right now.  The unconventional approach has definately worked for you!  Congratulations!! You are also very fortunate to have your husband going through this process with you. You guys results are amazing!  I have definately gone through the evaluation process which is exhausting in itself.  I think it has helped me to get my head straight before surgery.  Now when I think about surgery I get so nervous but when I read stories like yours it reminds me why I am doing this.   In the days leading up to your surgery, how did you work to prepare yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, etc?  I want to make sure I am covering all the basis.  Also, I am interested if you had any of the other issues I have seen with hanging skin.  This is probably one of my greatest fears.  (By the way, you can email me directly with your response at [email protected]) I looked for your email and couldn't find it on your profile.) Nonetheless, thanks for your response and I look forward to our continued conversations.   Welcome, again- Candice
