Looking for a surgery buddy.
If 3 weeks isn't too far off, I'm more than willing to be a buddy. Mine is scheduled for June 5th. I just met w/my surgeons Friday. I have my pre-op next Friday and surgery is the following Monday. It seems far off and around the corner at the same time.
Like you, I need to clean up ... I have that nesting instinct. I always feel better in a clean space.
I went to the Vitamin Shoppe at Brier Creek in Raleigh and got some "tasteless" AnyWhey protien powder. A number of people that I've talked with said that their sense of taste changed a great deal after surgery. So while I'm going to be sure that a protien power available, I didn't buy one of the really big packages of it.
I'm also lining up help. One of the things I'm doing besides enlisting family help, is rallying some friends, to check on me, contacting the Carry Hands committee at our congregation and they will bring meals for my family for as long as we need. That will releave some pressure.
Feel free to check out my blog and send me an email anytime. If you want to share contact info, let me know.
All the best in your journey to a healthier you!
Like you, I'm gettng a little nervous. I remember all of the research I've done

Jennifer,
I've been cutting out a lot of the stuff I know I shouldn't be eating. Not all the time, but most. Like you, I can lose the weight, I just have never been able to lose enough or keep it off. I'm not going crazy; at first, I just ordered water whenever I was at a restaurant and wanted a Coke. I would drink a lot more water and a lot less coke. I don't bring "contriband" in the house. I shop with a list and try to stay on outer isles of the grocery store ... you know, fresh fruits, vegi's, meats, dairy. I try to be careful if I venture into the scary middle isles filled with carbs and processed stuff.
I bought some beautiful dishes that have a deep border on the edge. It's a whole lot easier to just put the food on the unadorned portion of the plate and it still looks like a reasonable amount of food. I think I've cut my portions at least in half, maybe 2/3.I also bought some appetizer plates and condiment bowls.
I bought some party utensils from Target for 9.99. It's a set of 4 each canape forks, demmetasse spoons and spreader/knives. It really does make you slow down.
I drink water constantly.
I figured if I was really going to do this I needed to be sure I had my head in "the right place."
Hope that helps.
Barb

Lori, That is too awsome!! I love that we are in the same hospital on the same day. I hope yours is approved quickly. Are you starting to get nervous? I am so scared about being wheeled into the surgery room. My heart is pounding just thinking about it. I'm gonna ask Dr. Moran if they can give me something to relax me before that. If I see all that surgical equipment I think I might chicken out. Isn't that crazy considering this is going to be a life-changing experience?
