pre-cold feet
Ok, papers will be sent off next week for insurance approval. I'm reading the board on one poster (and I wont say the name) but they're wanting a fast weight loss and their willpower isn't the best. I have chosen to have the lapband and found and met my surgeon, but now I'm thinking, wow, she sounds like me. I want it fast also, and I have NO willpower, in fact one of the things that is worrying me is, will I have the willpower to say no to eating goodies, and exercise? I HATE exercise. Matter of fact, I see this is going to be a major issue with me, for I am LAZY! Do RNY ppl have to adapt a exercise routine? Boy, I'm sounding pretty sorry.......but I'm starting to doubt myself.!!!!!!!~~~~~~ Nancy
Yep, "RNY people" have to adopt an exercise routine. This isn't a magic bullet, just a tool. I try to alternate one day I go to the gym, the next day I walk. I take Sunday's off if I've been good. This week I haven't been so good, I've only walked once and been to the gym twice. It isn't easy developing new habits and breaking down old ones, but it is possible and you can do it. They say it takes 21 days to develop a new habit, tell yourself that "I can do anything for 21 days."
The added advantage where exercise is concerned is that as you lose weight, you will most likely increase your energy level. You might be surprised what you find yourself able to, even wanting to do. I have found that I can no longer spend all day sitting on my behind. Even the days this week that I didn't formally exercise, I was busy doing something. My house is starting to look better than it has in a long time.
Again, it's not a magic bullet, but you might just surprise yourself at what you can do when you decide you want something bad enough. I saw a great saying on a tee-shirt recently. It said,
Ellen
“Women are like teabags. We don't know our true strength until we are in ho****er!” It's actually a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. What a smart lady! I guess the question is, are you ready to find out how strong you really are?
Take care.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/shades_smile.gif)
Good Morning - I couldn't agree more. I had my lap-band almost 2 years ago, I have lost over 100 pounds and very happy BUT I stopped exercising after about 9 months and I just started it back up just about a month ago and I couldn't be happier.
I needed it for me, I feel better about myself and I have started lossing inches again!!!!! YEAH that means smaller clothes.
I think all surgeries take work. You do have the added benefit of the malasorbation w/ the RNY but it does slow down about a year or two. So EVERYONE has to do the headwork at some point in the journey and all surgeies are just a TOOL. It's all in how you use you tool will depend on how succesful you are. Which going through this process is going to make you successful no matter which one you go with.
Good Luck!!!!!

I can sympthize with not liking to exercise. I have been quite in active for a long time. It is hard to get up off my butt and go walk.
I had surgery 5 weeks ago and developing a routine is hard.
I do much better when I am at work. I feel like people are watching me. I don't want to fail in front of them, so they support me indirectly. At work I walk 2 miles, I push away from my desk and put the ipod on and go walking. I do it in the morning since it is cooler.
I have a gym membership and I need to get there to do some aerobic exercise. I do keep a good pace and can do the 2 miles in 40 minutes, the music helps.
The weightloss surgeries are tools to achieve your weight goal. I have to keep telling myself that becasue I want to just sit down.
I am gaining more energy and I think that I would like to run a mile.
I did this to live a better like. That is something I keep telling myself.
It may be helpful to see a therapist and talk more about body changes, expectations, and willingness.
Good luck to you,
