Tummy Tuck Medical Necessity?
Wendy
I had an anchor cut panniculectomy (not tummy tuck) paid for by insurance. It was covered because I also had a large abdominal hernia repair at the same time (different surgeons).
The surgeons submitted documentation that the panni was necessary because the hanging, sagging skin would pull at the incision site of the hernia and possibly cause a recurrence.
Very few insurances will pay for the "tummy tuck", but will pay for the panni. Many people pay the difference out of pocket. My hernia surgeon said my stomach muscles were in such bad shape they couldn't be properly repaired.
I hope this helps.

Larry,
I wanted to ask you, who did your panni surgery. I am now really at the point of needing the surgery. I do not have a herna but the skin really has become a problem with rashes ie....
Insurance did not pay for my GBS but I am hopeful they may help pay for the skin removal ( or at least it is worth trying ) .
thanks
my sister has BCBS, after several tries, and dr's notes about back problems, rashes, sores., pictures.... She finally started going to the dr for just about every little problem the extra skin was causing so they could have a paper trail of the problems... and now BCBS is going to pay for her surgery.
Hey Pug Mom
I had Dr. Getz. His office is at 900 East Blvd. His office was the only one that would take insurance (or at least try to submit it) of about 10 offices I called. He is very, very good, but is an ex-military man so he doesn't have a great deal of personality.
His nurse Cathy is the personable one with the group and she goes into surgery with him also.
He is short and sweet when it comes to office visits. But, I would recommend him highly. I think he did a great job on me and I'm not one that needs to be pampered by my doctor.
There are other doctors out there that make you feel like you are in a luxurious spa, not here. Dr. Getz is associated with Carolinas Medical Center and he gets his share of trauma cases, etc... When you are waiting in his office you will see something of every kind.
Give him a call. I think you will be pleased.
