Frustrated and Diasappointed
I have been waiting for months for insurance to go into effect so I can begin my WLS journey. Now I have been told by nurse at doctor's office that he won't do RNY until I lose 25 lbs!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! If I could lose weight on my own, I wouldn't need the surgery. I understand there are precautions, but I am still bummed out. *sigh* I have heard of people larger than me having it done. What's up?

Most doctors ask that you lose weight before surgery. Some just call it the two week liquid diet. This just helps to shrink the "fatty" liver so the laproscopic procedure is easier to perform. If you surgeon is asking you to lose the 25 pounds before he will schedule you then do it. It will take less than 1 month to lose that amount since we already start out as morbidly obese.
Most of us had to jump through many hoops to get our surgery. Just keep jumping and one day it will happen and you will be so glad that you did. Life after surgery is so wonderful.

I hate losing weight but I asked my doctor about it and she prescribed me Topamax. It helped lose 44 pounds. I still have to do the 2 week liquid diet. Topamax just took away the urge to eat. I had no desire for sweets, fresh fruit and raw vegetables. For the first few weeks I wanted to eat just apples and it also made quite thirsty and I drank a boat load of water. It was not a fast loss I lost the weight over 3 months but you could probably lose the 25 in a month or so if you did some light exercise (walking) and used the topamax.
