cigna insurace, 6month dr supervised diet question.
my questions is.. how hard should i try to lose weight on my supervised diet. My primary dr didn't really give me a diet to follow. and i started seeing him in sept for this. since then i've gained about 4 pounds (after the first visit) and i maintained on my 3rd visit. from what i can get out of the insurance company this should be active participation within the last 6months without significant gaps. i'm afraid that if i "buckle down" the insurance will say..sorry you did too good... denied... or if i don't "buckle down" they will say you didn't try hard enough.. try again.
From what Ive read most people lose the same 3-4lbs and maintain around the same weight... down 2lbs up a 1lb something like that. You dont want to gain weight because Cigna will say you cannot stick to a program but on the other hand you dont want to lose too much because they will deny you for that. Have you checked with your surgeon?? Usually they can give you better direction since they are the ones who submit for approval Hopefully somebody else will have a better answer for you!
Ok Cigna is a trip. There is absolutely no reason for the weight supervised visits to your doctor. I have them and I am not a fan. It will test you, you may doubt yourself about having it because they have the final say even though you know that this is something that you need. I was denied the first time, but my doctor saw my dertemination and was determined to make sure that I got approved. Only once did I lose weight while on the weight supervised visits and I think that was from stress. Hang in there and just do the best that you can. My doctor advised me to continue to eat what I was eating, but just cut the protions in half. I didn't always follow, but when I did I did lose. I hope that was helpful. NO matter what remember you want it and your going to have it........................period. Stay encouraged
I am switching from Wellpath to Cigna because Dr. Bauman said they usually have no problem getting Cigna to cover, and Wellpath has denied my 2nd appeal. My husband works at NEMC and just put me on his insurance there. My official Cigna coverage won't begin until the 1st of January, but I've continued doing all of the preop stuff in the meantime the last several months, including the monthly weigh-in visits with my PCP since I knew Cigna would require it. I hope I don't have any issues with them, or at least not what I have had with Wellpath!
