I AM APPROVED!!!!!!!
I called my surgeons office on Friday and left a message. One of the nurses called back and informed me that I had been approved for surgery. The good news was tempered by the the news that I already knew, that I have to get my A1c down before the surgery date can be set.
In the best of situations I could be tested again in three weeks or so and if there is adequate evidence that my blood sugar is going in the right direction, the surgeon will go ahead and plan the surgery date.
Im on a no carb diet. Im eating a teaspoon of cinnamon every day. Someone said to eat onions so Im eating a lot of onions. I am working out at the YMCA everyday. Mostly just walking but also stationary bikes and some weightlifting. Right now Im so sore I can barely lift my arms. My blood sugar is slowly starting to respond but Im sure its still way too high.
I have an appointment Tuesday to see my PCP. My current diabetes meds are simply not working at all. I used to be on metformin and it did work, but I had a lot of digestive problems with it. I am going to try to get on insulin at least for a few months to get control of this in order to have surgery.
Any advice?
Congrats RM. Good luck the the A1c thing. You can look into Chromium Picolinate, I'm not sure if it will help you or not. Guess it's worth a look however, as with all supplimentation, it's best to read up on it first. Sounds like you are on the right path otherwise. Did they refer you to an endocrinologist?

Hey there
I was told the same thing by my Dr's staff, my A1c was 7.9, but what they had me do was take a test for my frutosamine level and if it was under 200, then the Dr. would approve my surgery, or okay it for submittal to my Ins Co. I did the same thing you are doing and lost some lbs and my level was normal. So you may want to talk to your surgeon about having that test done. It only gathers data on the prior two weeks as opposed to 6 months.
Good Luck
