Tips on getting A1C down? BTW I think Im approved!!!!!!
I got a call from my surgeons office to say that my appeal was basicly approved pending some more Doctors notes and another A1c test. Well guess what? I already had all that and the next day I hand delivered it all to them. The office manager showed me the letter from Medicaid and it certainly sounded like I was going to be approved.
I have to say, hearing her talk about my approval for surgery as if it were a forgone conclusion really made my day. Only you guys could fully understand that. At any rate Im expecting the approval letter in the mail next week. Crossing my fingers in the mean time. The office manger said that I might get a surgery date in late December if I was lucky and early January if not. Either way is fine with me.
Then, the bad news. My A1c is 10.1. The last time they checked, in July I think, it was 7.6. My surgeon doesnt do WLS if your A1c isnt below 8.2 according to his office manager.
Well, for more than 9 months now Ive been on a diet of moderate carbs, low fat and moderate protein. During that time my A1c has gone up more than 50%.
Anybody have any addvice for getting A1c down in a hurry?
Hey RM,
I don't know exactly what your diet consists of, but my experience with controlling my A1C was to lose the weight and cut out all sugar. I use sugar free everything, except a little stuff that is cooked in food. My A1C was running 8-9 when I had WLS but now is 5 or below. Doctors, they tell us that the WLS will fix stuff, but we have to have stuff fixed before we can have surgery? I'm getting dizzy.....good luck!

A1c is a blood test that is done to test how well your pancreas has worked over a period of 3 months. your pancreas is what produces insulin. my A1c test done before surgery was 7.9. 3 months after surgery it was 6.1, which is borderline diabetic from what i am told. now, almost 9 months out my A1c test is 5.2. hip hip hurray.
