Weight Loss
I just asked my doctor that today. He said you lose 1/2 to 1 pounds a day the first month; then 1/2 pound a day the second month; and then 1-2 pounds a week after that. These are just averages, of course, but I was glad of some sort of measuring stick for myself.
I've lost 17 pounds in my first eight days! My surgeon warned me that that will NOT continue!
at 3 months, I had lost 38 lbs. I've lost 135 lbs, which is nearly 50% of my starting weight. I really should have a goal of 137 for my age/height and to have a normal BMI but if I can lose the last 2 lbs and stay there, I'll be plenty happy...of course, I'm already plenty happy with nearly half of me gone!
A real real big key to this weight loss being so huge for my age of 53, I am certain, is the exercise. I do something at least an hour a day, 6-7 days a week. Some Sundays I just walk my dog around the block. I do Jazzercise 3 days a week and aerobics 2 days a week. On Saturdays, I usually just take a really long...4-6 mile...walk with my dog, and maybe get on the treadmill too. My surgeon had warned me ahead of time that usually women in their 50's only lost about 60% of their excess weight, but I was/am determined to prove to him that age has nothing to do with it!
So my 'excess body weight' was 145 lbs (using the BMI indicator of 137) and I've lost 135 lbs...don't have my calculator, but that's got to be more than 90% of my excess body weight.
