Just wanted to say hi!
Hi everyone!
I haven't been able to read or post for a long time. I've been going non-stop since the surgery it feels like. I only took two weeks off to recover, and then my job was crazy for 6 weeks after that... I could go on and on.
Anyway, things have been going well for me over all. Tomorrow is 3 months post-op for me and I am down 75lbs. I feel good, though it took me a long time to get any energy back after the surgery. I was majorly tired for about 10 weeks. I've had a couple of minor complications: my primary incision site became infected, so they had to open the wound and I had to pack it for about a month. A nuisance, but not a really big deal. In the last couple of weeks, I started having a lot of pain when I ate, so at my 3-month check up on Monday, I spoke with Dr. Pender about it, and he immediately scheduled an endoscopy for the next day. Turns out I had a "stricture" (which I'm guessing I spelled correctly), which made the hole between my pouch and my intestine too small for almost any food to pass through easily. The doc opened it up some during the endoscopy, and I have to go back for more work...and another endoscopy...next Weds. I'm back on liquids and soft foods for now, but other than a sore throat, I feel fine.
I have no regrets about having this surgery. It is probably the best decision I have ever made in my entire life. I feel excellent...so alive and full of possibilities. I am a happier person. And one really cool thing is that I didn't realize how many clothes I had saved that were too small for me. I pulled everything out a couple of weeks ago and now my closets are bursting! My sister is a plus-size woman (though not as large as I was pre-op), who is very healthy, and very comfortable in her skin, so she is excited about all the new clothes she is getting over time.
I hope all is going well for everyone. And congratulations to those of you I read have gotten your dates recently. I'm very excited for you.
Take care all,
Lisa
WOW! Lisa, it sounds like you are doing really well, 75 lbs? Thats terrific. I also had Dr.Pender and I will be going for my 6 month check up in about 2 weeks. I am knocking on the down of 90 lbs gone, but I am trying for the elusive 100 by 6 months, just a personal goal I had set for myself.
Drop me a line sometime, I am not able to attend the support group meetings due to work schedules and the time of day they are planned. Nice to hear from someone in this area, with my same doc!
Hope to get to know you better!
Robin
