Hello Everyone! I just found this site today. I'm researching WLS for me and my daughter, she's 18 and has wanted surgery for 2+ years now. Not sure yet, but hoping to become informed. What's the best way to start? Should I find a surgeon first, or decide on the type of surgery? Or is there something else I should start with? Thanks in advance for your help! Sara

Hi Sara I did a lot of research, and found a few different message boards to talk to people who have had the surgery. I've grilled so many people LOL. One of my friends also had the surgery and she encouraged me to call her doctor. It's a good first step because the doctor should have seminars and support groups that are VERY informative! Before I even had the opportunity to meet with my doctor, I attended one of his support groups. At the support groups, you will also meet different people who have had the surgery, and they are always willing to answer questions. I always have a million Also, if you visit different surgeon's websites, they will have a lot of info on the different types of surgeries. Good luck!

Yes, definitely start looking around on the web for information about surgeons and about the surgery. I agree that attending a support group meeting is beneficial. Also, you might want to ask your primary care doctor for recommendations. If you are in the RTP area, I recommend Dr. Enochs. I just had my surgery on Tuesday and I'm home walking around the block already!
