my surgery was 10/25!!!!!!!!!!
I am on the other side thank the lord. I had my surgery on wed. 10/25 at Presbyterian Hospital. Dr Lowe is my surgeon and everything went well. I came home on Friday a.m.. The only true pain I had was from the gas that they pump in you. I am still trying to get that out of me. I walk, walk and walk but I still feel like a balloon in the Macey's Day parade. But if this is all that I have to deal with I will be very happy. I was lucky that one of the nurses that I work with at Presby. Stayed with me the entire time. I also had nurses from my floor giving me neck, back and foot rubs. Wow why did I want to come home. Now I am fighting getting in all I need to ( the protein shakes are ok but after drinking them since 14 days before my surgery I am getting a little sick of them ) I am suprised that even though I am not having any stomach hunger I am having head hunger. Or maybe I should say head cravings. My husband ordered pizza the 1st night I was home and wow that was hard not to think of. I think he thought not cooking anything was best so that I would not smell it. Well I am new to this side but so far I say it is the right decission for me. I had lost 13 lbs on the liquid diet pre-op I came out of the hospital 5lbs heavier than when I went in. ( I guess fluids) now on the 29th 4 days post op I am 6lbs lighter than I was 2 days ago. Total lost since my first dr's appt. With dr lowe in July is 27lbs. So I am going the right way. only one question - I was put on Vicodin for pain. I break them in half but it still seems that they kind of stick in my esophagus. I called the oncall Dr. last night because I have heard of having to have your esophagus stretched .But he said that if that happened it would be much later. He thought that I was not getting enough liquid down. I have stopped taking them because it hurts any suggestions. I tried crushing them but that made me gag and gagging hurts also. It may be in my head now that I am scared to swallow it. Any help would be appreciated.
Tammy,
Congrats on your surgery. I remember when I first had surgery I felt everything in my throat. I felt like my pouch was at the base of my throat. Which I know it wasn't.
I take my med's with water so it lubricates as it goes down. I've always taken any pills that way, because I hate to taste anything like pills. I would try them again and see what happens. Can you take it with a protien drink?
I'm about 8 months post op and I still feel my stomach in my throat if that makes any sense. I'm glad you called your dr with your question.
As for your husband ordering pizza your first night home, I would probably have been very upset. My first week home I stayed in the bedroom while my family ate, because honestly it was very difficult. I drank some broth to offset the desire to eat. I still struggle with it. Keep up the good work
