Help, Ins. turned down. Any out there had to self pay?

I just found out my ins. turned me down. I am now looking into self pay options. anyone else went through this? If so what can I expect?

Sorry to hear about your denial. Why did they say you were denied? Have you considered an appeal? Can you change to an insurance co that covers WLS? I have know people to postpone surgery and switch to another ins co during open - enrollment. There is a way. I think Pug Mom was self pay you might want to e-mail her or search for her profile. I'm not sure what your insurance denial was based on but I would keep fighting! I was denied 3 times before my approval. The goal of insurance intakers is to deny everything and see who comes back again and again! I don't know if I would have ever been able to go self pay without putting so much strain on my family. The way I looked at it was they had better pay! After spending years and years paying them and not getting anything it was time for them to cough it up!!

Hey Jen, WOW do I agree with you 100%!! I heard from my surgeons office last Thursday and they told me the insurance Co called them and said I needed the last 2 years of supervised diet and diet medications I was on. I could not believe they are asking for this when I gave them 8 years of my medical records with all my health issues and diets and medications I was on and they still want to see how much more they can get out of me. Well I was so upset I could of choked someone over there. The girl at the surgeons office was so nasty to me when I told her" I will have to check and see what else I have since 8 yrs isnt enough for them! " She said.. Well if you dont get it they are going to deny you. Boy I just wanted to punch her one I was so mad. Im trying to get my pcp to get more info for me so thats what Im waiting on now. I cant believe they denied you 3 times!! Im really worried that they will pull that with me. I told my husband they are in for a fight if they keep this up! we pay and pay to have insurance and then they have the nerve to deny People *****ally need help. Its such a disgrace that they can even get away with this. But one docotor told me.. Insurance Co. are nothing but a business and the CEO's on top want there big pays so they try as much as they can not to pay for our surgeries. Im so hot and mad when I think about it because its all a bunch of BS thats all I can say. Well Jen Im so happy you got your surgery!! GOOD FOR YOU!! Hey Tameria and Denise Exactally!!!!!! Keep fighting!!! As long as your insurance company doesn't have a complete WLS exclusion you should be able to keep fighting until you get the answer you want!!! Don't give up!!!!!

Find out what your insurance companies policy is on appeal. I had to appeal 3 times before I was approved. You can also contact the NCDOI (nc dept of insurance) and they can let you know of different options available to you. good luck!

Does anyone mind sharing why they were denied? I'm just starting in this process, and the thought that I can be denied is quite scary!! :-o
