New to NC!

Hi everyone, Hubby and I will be moving to Charlotte in a couple of months - we'll either be living in Charlotte-Mecklenburg or maybe Cabarrus County. Can anyone around there tell me what it's like? Schools, traffic, people? We've lived in Richmond VA our whole lives but are looking forward to the change! I'm hoping I'll be close to one of the OH support groups too. hi sarah- my husband and i are very new to charlotte also so i can only give that perspective, but, we really like north carolina! we live just outside of university city (the northeast part of the metro) but had looked into cabarrus county when we were house hunting. taxes are better in cabarrus but we fell in love with this neighborhood ... and today, as i sit here looking at our new property tax bill, i admit to grumbling a bit. oddly enough, there is a great insert to today's newspaper titled "Living Here". if you are interested in a copy of this (it has loads of great info on schools, housing, traffic, eateries, etc..) send me an email and i will pop my extra copy in the post for you. thrre is info on not only charlotte but adjoining counties- including cabarrus- in the magazine. oh- the weather is sooooo nice! alex

Hi Sarah, I live in Concord and have for the last 7 years. I love it here. I grew up in Charlotte and like being close to Charlotte but glad I am out of it. It's just me...I live our where there aren't many neighborhoods right now that is. I drive by cows and hores to get home. The schools are great from what I have learned. Mine is only 3 so I haven't had personal experenice yet but I have several neighbors that do and they love them. I would say if you move to Concord try to stay out of the city limits. You will have city and county taxes to pay then. Harrisburg is also a great place in Cabarus county. Good Luck...if you need any help plesae just let me know. Kim

Hi sarah, I think you will love N.C. But I am partial to it as I have lived here all my life ( I did live in Newport News VA. When I was in college for about a year) I live in cabarus county ( Harrisburg). We have been here for 18 years. We moved here because it is a small town kind of like a modern day Mayberry. On 4th of July we have a 2 day celebration. Parade ,fireworks, and games. It's so much fun. Also I do not know if you know about Concord Mills. This is the mall in Concord/Harrisburg area. It is a mile around. This is the largest mall in N.C. So the shopping is great. Schools are good to. The town is so small that you see your kids teachers at the grocery store,McDonalds, ect. So I hope you check us out. Tammy

I love it here. I have been in Charlotte NC for 5 years now. the first year was a big shocker but mostly because I missed home (NY) you know friends, everything I knew , food etc.....) but now I wouldn't go back if ya paid me. I live on the east side of charlotte and It's a great place. I can't comment on the schools since I have no kids in school. Welcome to NC !! I am sure will love it here !! As for the schools PLEASE PLEASE Check them out before buying or renting a house !! Go to the school, look at the class rooms get an over all fill for the place. I hope you enjoy your new state !! OH I live on the coast come and see me some time !!! Stephiane

Hi Sarah.I moved to Charlotte yrs ago.Love it here and live on the South Side of Charlotte.Schools are great.South Meck and also Private are great and so is Charlotte Catholic.Shopping is great and I am 9 miles from uptown.I moved from Pa .Reminds me alot of Bucks County where I used to live.Dee My dr is with CMC General Surgery ,Dr Gersin and Kuwada both are wonderful.We meet 4th Tues of the mo.
