I have Medicaid and I want WLS....

I have Medicaid and I want to have the weight loss surgery, is there anyone else out there that has North Carolina Medicaid and they approved for the surgery? If so what did you have to do and who is your Dr.and where did you have the surgery? If you can help me please do !!!!

hi, i have medicaid and i had surgery on march 12th by a wonderful doctor. dr. malik is in rocky mount. and even though surgery is done in rocky mount, he has an office in cary too. he takes medicaid also. the first thing i would do is call the office for an appt. my initial appt was fast. no waiting at all. 252-937-8861. then if you havent started a six month supervised diet with your pcp, then start it soon, medicaid requires it and i was denied because i thought i had enough documentation and i was wrong. if you have documents about a diet this month and maybe 3 months ago and maybe last year, that won't be good enough. it has to be consecutive or they will deny. you also need to have comorbidities, not just a high bmi. some include, hypertention, vericose veins, diabetes, which is what i had, sleep apnea, or depression. dr. maliks website is www.advancedsurgassociates.com . email me if you want more info or support. but i highly recommend my doctor. adrienne
