Hi Everybody. I just had my surgery in Atlanta July 24th. I'm doing really good except for the soreness. I didn't think that I would be this sore. I have been walking up to 30 min a day. If anybody has any suggestions on a good protein shake or powder I would love to hear from you.

I use biochems 100% whey protein in vanilla... its very light and doesnt have much flavor... I mix with light soymilk (choco or vanilla flavor) and sometimes add a package of Carnation Breakfast NSA (choco or vanilla).

Hi Karin, Congrats on your recent surgery. I heard that walking is good for the soreness, so your doing the right things. I am currently using AlltheWhey protein Orange cream and unflavored. They both go down smooth with no gritty taste. I make a Soy smoothie in the morning (8oz) for breakfast (orange cream) and add a banana and OMG it tastes like heaven (31.25 grams of protein total). I use the unflavored whey protein (25 gms protein) and add it to my applesauce and yogurt or cream soups. I hope this helps. Twinnytwin

Karin, I have some protein drinks that are cappachino flavored and hazelnut (achieveone), I believe. They were the only ones I was able to do. The others........ick! I have several left and they are just sitting in my cabinet. If you like I can meet you somewhere and you can have them. I live in Candler, which is pretty darn close to you. Just let me know if want them. Nancy

Nancy: Thank you so much. I would love to try those. The other question I have is about support groups. I have one that is in Waynesville for Dr. William's patients. I wasn't sure if there was one closer or on another day in case I can't make one. Thanks Karin

Hey Karin, I went and checked the expiration date on those shakes......should have done it before I offered them! They expired in May. If you still want them I don't mind meeting you. They are probably still ok, but I know some people really watch those dates carefully! Just let me know. I can tell you that I tried everything out there and never found anything that I really liked except these.......and then I wasn't head over heels for them. Unfortunately, you can only get them through the mail. I went to bariaticeating.com to order those. You can also buy a bunch of samples to try and see what you like. Believe me, I spent hundreds on that stuff and ended up giving most of it away. My surgeon requires me to get lab work every time I go and my protein levels have always been fine......so unless your doctor recommends the shakes, or you just want them you can do it without them, just be careful. As far as support groups go, I know there is one at Mission. You can call Mission Hospital and ask for Diana Fisher (she is the head of their program). They do allow anyone to attend no matter where they had surgery. Unless they have changed it recently. I haven't gone to many support group meetings for several reasons.......I had surgery in Hickory, and I like their meetings but it is a long drive to do every month. I don't attend the ones at Mission because I went to their informational meeting when I was thinking about surgery and I just felt like a fish out of water, left in tears because I was just so incredibly uncomfortable, so I just didn't think the support group meetings would be any different. I do have friends though that have had this surgery, so I feel I have support. Let me know if you want the shakes (yeah, I am a bit embarrassed even saying that) and if I can help you in any way just email me or post a message! Nancy
