Ive been doing a lot of classwork/clinic trying to maybe get a little ahead and to keep my mind off waiting on my insurance approval. Clinic for those who dont know is where you go work in a hospital or other medical setting for free (meaning they dont pay you) and they call it education.... Im almost done with this semester. One more to go. Had a 460 pound patient collapse on me this week. I was helping her from a wheelchair to her bed and she just "let go" leaving me doing all I could to keep from dropping her in the floor. I found out later she doesnt have a condition that causes this but has done it to several male (and only the male) nurses, etc. She gets them to the floor and then she gropes the hell out of them while pretending to be in a stupor.... I didnt drop her but I almost did. And to think I want a career in this field? lol The last thing on my mind after surgery will be faking a condition so I can feel up the nurses, but I do not want to be bed ridden for long. Id rather get up and move around and get that catheter out of me asap. LOL My kids have been at their mothers for the month. They come home Monday afternoon. Ill be so glad to see them again. Its stressful though as I know Ill spend a week calming them down and treating sunburn, chiggers, ticks, dog bites, infected cat scratches, and a million "well mama said we could do anything we wanted to", etc. Oh what fun!!!! My legs ache. My feet hurt. My knees hurt. My back hurts. But I have plenty to stay positive about. Dreams never die and Im living my dreams. Life would be worth living if it was all easy right? I guess I just wanted to post and say Im still here, still alive and still kicking. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Mark Twain once said, "Why not go out on a limb, that's where all the fruit is." Life is all about going out on the limb, easy or not. Sounds like you're doing well with that, keep up the fight, it's worth it. Take Care. ~Ellen

RM, This must have been a rough week for all. I spent two days going back and forth to the surgeon, dr's office and hospital. I was having a serious bout of pain and thought it might be wls related. Woah, I spent 4 days going back and fourth just to find out, everything's fine with the WLS end. So, back to square 1 and down $100 from copayments. I missed work almost everyday for some test or dr visit. Guess my body will heal itself over time. I'm glad to hear your busy and staying positive. YOur approval will come soon. Now, as for the nursing home bit, ugh. My mom was in a nursing home before she passed and she got the greatest care way beyond nursing. The staff even made her food at their homes and brought it in to feed her. She was dying so she didn't eat much, they treated her very well. She wasn't at a loss for food though because my sibilings and her sibilings were bring foods and drinks every day. Nursing is a great profession. Maybe once your sucessful with surgery you can go into baratrics, it seems like it's the hottest new field for nursing care. Good Luck... Jt

My job is a little more specialized than that. There are a lot of people in the hospital we call nurse when theyre not. LOL. I am tired from rushing around but it lets me know Im alive. Ive gotten so used to having a "project" to work on like education, wls, its going to be tough finding new projects....lol

I know what you mean about a long week. We had 2 codes in our facility on Friday. Unfortunately I have been stuck in administration for about 10 years, ever since a car wreck caused me to have spinal compression, fusion on 2 levels in my neck and various other buldge discs. I have a tremor that would make you scream if I came at you with a needle. Yet, here I am back doing MDS's after almost a 2 year sabaticle. There are always new projects out there. I was self employed during that time selling insurance (which I still dable in) and nurse consulting (which I find hard to give up too). Seems like most nurses are constantly looking for that next challenge or project as you put it. You'll find it - believe me - it's just around the corner!
