Cabbage Soup Diet

Has anyone else out there done this a week before surgery? Is this supposed to shrink your liver? The nurse said it would detox your body. I heard that other surgeons don't require this. I started on it today and it is awful.

I didnt do this pre-op... my surgeon required a 2 week liquid pre-op to help shrink the liver. All I know is cabbage = gas!!!

You must have Dr. Classen! He is my Dr. too- My RNY was 2 weeks ago and I'm doing great! I had to do the cabbage soup diet also...it will make you go to the bathroom alot...I also lost 5 or 6 pounds doing it...the nurse told me that it is to shrink your liver...I was happy that he doesn't require an enema...I would prefer doing the cabbage soup diet to an enema anytime! You may not enjoy the type of diet you have to adhere to after WLS either. Just something to be sure of before you start this amazing roller coaster ride. The cabbage soup diet is a small price to pay to get a chance at getting your life back. I think most docs require some type of 2 week liquids before surgery. You can do it. It is gonna be hard, but just tell yourself every day..., "I can do this. Its not that bad. If I cant do this one small diet, how do I think I can do a lifetime of change?" Hello Audrey ........I had my surgery in July 2 years ago this past July 2nd.. I had to do the cabbage soup diet also i didnt like it either hot so i tryed it cold alot better ..Good luck on your journey ...I started out at 310..now im 172
