I've been in the hospital ...
I've been feeling nauseaus for weeks and last week started throwing up every day. Then on Thursday the violent vomiting started up and I could not stop the heaving for hours. A friend took me to the ER and after hours of trying everything they finally got it to stop. I was admitted and was severely dehydrated. My doctor came it around 7 a.m and was right in touch with my surgeon. They were going to send me up to Hickory from Shelby by ambulance because they thought I has a stricture but decided to wait and did lots of tests and had me loaded up in the IV with fluids, potassium, magnesium, reglan (sp?) pepcid and morphine. Then over the weekend the non-stop heaves started and they were able to, with drugs and ice packs on my neck to freeze the vegal nerves, stop the heaving again. This morning (Tuesday) they did a barium swallow and found absolutely nothing wrong. The concensus between doctor, surgeon and radiologist was that the "pump" that regulated my new pouch got knocked out of rhythm and would reset itself in a few days. Meanwhile I am back on a very soft diet with some more changes in medications and am at home.
It was really frustrating not having computer access in the hospital. And I got a phone book and tried calling everyone whose name I had in the Gastonia area but was unsuccessful. I just needed some contact from my WLS buddies.
I'll be back at work Wednesday and I'll just lay low for a while. I'm still kind of stressed out over the hospital stay. It was longer than my surgery and I had a lot of time to practice being patient. I am not the most patient of patients but had yet another opportunity to practice the fine art.
Missed reading posts so much and felt that I missed so much in just five days of being confined to a lumpy bed.
Lots of love to everybody,
Maureen
Oh Maureen, I hate to hear how sick you have been. If I had know I would have tried to get up to Shelby and seen you. I live outside of Bessemer City and it does not take me long. I will email you my phone number so in the future if you end up there again you will have someone to call, and if I am not here I have voicemail and would call you back. I hope the doctors are right and you will get better soon. Keep us updated.
Much
Nancy
Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and wishes and prayers. I'm up and about and trying to get ready for work. I feel like I ate a bag of ground bricks. I feel all full but there's not much in my belly. And I think my mojo got left behind at the hospital -- I'm going really slow. Hope I get it together before too long.
Take care and I'll do the same.
Maureen
I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had a stricture and was dilated. Still couldn't keep much down and was admitted and had a revision done. Stayed in the hospital for a week baffling the docs. I am on zophran and regalin and still throw up. my doc will be back this week. I am just happy I'm not the only one with this mystery.
