Pain with new foods, help!

Ok, so I had a fried egg this morning. I took a few (maybe 3 small bites) chewed a lot but it still hurt doing down. I tried one more bite,, smaller and chewed more. Still hurt, so I threw it out. I was still kinda hurting. I waited about 15 min and had a drink of water. It also hurt going down, right at the bottom of my esophagus. I mean hurt! I started to feel sick and ran to the bathroom. I threw up the water but not the egg. I was hurting so bad I could barely breathe. I looked in the mirror and I was beet red. I finally caught my breath and I stopped hurting after a few minutes. I have eaten other things, like chicken noodle soup, a few french fries, things like that. But it was the first time I tried egg. I made some chicken salad for lunch. Can chicken and I minced it up real good. I did pretty ok, but occasionally I felt a pain. I am not sure where it is, it seems like it would be where the esophagus meets the pouch. The feeling is like when you swallow an ice cube whole and you get that pain. I had chicken noodle soup for dinner and did fine mostly, only a pain once, probably a too big of a bite that time. I just don't wanna mess anything up. Is what happened normal? I tried to call my Dr but they were closed for Good Friday.

I know I experienced lots of odd aches and pains when I was as early out as you are. I just always figured if it didn't pass in a day I would call the doctor. Everything always seem to pass and I haven't had any real problems at all.......but to this day I have trouble with eggs! If it persists or gets worse I would definitely try calling the doc again, I would think even over a holiday someone would be on call. Good luck! Nancy

Hey, I'm 9 weeks post op. What you described happens to me everytime I eat eggs or meats. What is happening is, the food is getting stuck. I know it sounds weird, but that's what's happening. Chicken and Fish for me, is horrible, the pain and pressure. I called my surgen and they said the only way to stop it was to wait it out or make myself throw it up. I've read that a lot of people have had this problem. The same with eggs, a lot of people have problems with that too. It was suggested to me to use egg beaters, I got some this weekend but I haven't tried it yet. I also found that the South Beach protein bars work well for me too. I also like to take cottage cheese and put some sugar free strawberry preserves in it. That's pretty good too. We just have to be creative in how we get our protein, if something doesn't work then, try something else until we find something that does...Good Luck and I hope you have a nice Easter... Sandi

Chicken and eggs are two foods that are hard on early post op's. I'm three months post op and the first few times I tried eggs, It hurt bad. Eggbeaters was the only thing I could tolerate. Soft scrambled is probably better. This morning I ate an egg for the first time with no problems. The only reason I tried it was becasue I'm out of town. I can only do chicken baked. Any other way hurts. If you have any concerns, call your surgeon. Thats what they are there for. I hope you feel better soon. Kay 450/388/327/175ish
