Anyone know if going to a tanning bed is okay right after surgery or is there a safe period to wait?...seems like it might be good for the incisions...but could be bad...I'll ask my surgeon's office, but thought someone else might have asked before me.

Hey Misty, I just read about this same thing on another site. They all said to cover the incissions because the scar tissue turns a lot darker that the regular skin and it burned easier....You can check the main message board, that's where I saw it, just go back through the older post's. I've been thinking about going myself..Clytie has been tanning you probally could ask her....How are you doing? Are you getting your protein and fluids? Hope you are doing well? Sandi

Hey Sandi, Thanks for asking about me...I'm really struggling with the protein drinks...I'm technically still on liquids, but I just can't drink another protein drink...it literally makes me gag and cry...I can't even choke them down now...the CIB does the same thing...I'm taking the vitamins and I've managed so far to get at least 60 protein grams a day since I got home. However, today I've got to come up with a plan for work so I'm doing some adding and combinations on paper of all the things like yogurt, cottage cheese, baby foods, egg yolks, and milk that I can tolerate well and I'm trying to figure out how often I have to eat to get in all the protein in one day and stay within the 600 calorie range. I am really struggling to get in the liquids too...I'm drinking broth, water, milk, and tea...all just plain and decaf and that works fine. I'm really overall pleased with how I'm reacting to things..I just boiled an egg soft and mashed up the yolk really good and finished it so that is now an option. I'm trying to stay away from getting my calories in carbs...I'm determined to find a source of protein that I can handle now that doesn't make me want to throw up.

Hey Jamey~ How are you getting in 60 grams of protein if you're not doing any shakes? I struggling getting my protein in! I was wondering about the tanning bed, also--and do you absorb Vitamin D in a tanning bed like you would from the sun?? I can't believe you are going back to work tomorrow! I'll be saying a prayer for your strength and stamina! Tamara

ER doc told me to remember to use alot of sunscreen on my incisions... to which I replied, Suncreen? .. what for? He said "for this summer". My husband and I looked at each other like what is talking about.. He said yeah, by this summer youll be showing that belly off... Well, we both burst out laughing like crazy.. He was a nice guy and took it well. Scars are new skin and burn very easily. cover them up. Gail
