I got all my United Health Care explanation of benefits. I'm a very analytical person that's why I'm posting this.... Physical $20 Consult $255 Psych two copays of $20 Pre Op - $25 copayment Surgery Center Copayment $100 Nutrionist $500 Surgery/Hospital $17,194.54 Surgeon $4785.00 Anesthesia $1300.00 My portion $940.00 United Health $23.369.54 Wow! I paid for the bulk of this with my 2006 flex spending. One complaint my hospital cost was $950 a night - no food, no hot shower, just sheets with hole's in them and an uncomfortable bed. The bed was very old fashioned too.

Just think what they would have charged you if the sheets were new and the bed comfortable....

Hello Jennifer, I am now waiting for my hospital bill to arrive, but mine will not be in the form of a EOB , as I am a self pay. So far I have paid out. First meeting with doctor - $150.00 Mystery charge from the Bariatric Center at Presbyterian $470.00 Nutritionalist charge - $ 240.00 Psych - was free ( one thing to thank my employeer for a EAP program ) Blood test not covered because I used it for my WLS - $535.00 ( would have cost $25.00 if I was just having a yearly lab work, but since my PCP sent a copy to the surgeon, insurance said NO .. WHAT JERKS ) Surgeon $8400.00 Getting skinny before I meet my husbands X wife - PRICELESS I am scared my lovely stay at Presbyterian will be more than what you paid, and I bet you had a much nicer room at NorthEast, but you know what they say " Location, Location Location I will say the bed was not too bad, and I did get a shower and towels. My food was like yours, they served me two 8oz CIB drinks , and ice chips, and lets not forget the nice sponge on a stick ! I am hoping the hospital bill will be somewhere in the $17,000 range or LOWER , and the Anesthesia dude should send me a check for the eight pokes he tried to stick me to get another IV in, and decided to put the line in my neck OUCH ! , but I am sure he will probaly charge me for each stick , I have no ideal what that will cost. SO here is my whinny time. Hope you are feeling Great , Allison

Alison, The thing is, these are insurance rates and they are negotiated. Being self pay they can charge full price, which is crazy. I guess being skinny is priceless. I'm glad your doing well. I delivered my daughter at presby and wasn't impressed. It was like a closet in their rooms. I am also sorry they stuck you 8 times ouch.

My stay at Presby was more like almost $19,000, but I did stay longer than you. I had open RNY.

Hey Jennifer My cost for my surgery was $268,000.00. Of course I had complications. I had to pay $400.00 out of pocket for a non-emergency ambulance transport from Presbyterian to Rehab. Insurance picked up the rest. I was in 5 rooms at Presbyterian the three weeks I was there and I always had large private rooms each time I was moved. I couldn't have asked for better nursing care. I wish you much success as your progress down the scale. Larry
