Ok, I had my rny on Tuesday and was released from the hospital yesterday. I'm feeling ok and really don't need any pain meds. BUT, I'm concerned I'm not getting enough in. Thus far today I've finished an 8 ounce glucerna for a total of 10 grams of protein and now I'm working on an 11 ounce can for an additional 13 grams of protein. It will likely take me till bedtime to finish the 11 ounce can. As for water, I've drank a 16.9 ounce bottle of water and am now working on a 24 ounce bottle and again this will take me till bedtime to consume. Is this enough? Will it get better? I know I need 60-70 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water daily, I just don't know how I will get enough it to make this goal. Can anyone help me or give me some advise how to make it. Thanks, Cathy

Cathy, I wondered myself about this but my surgeon told me before I ever left the hospital to add protein powder to my Glucerna. I had to drink Glucerna cause' I'm type II diabetic. Anyway, I added one scoop of protein powder which I think was 21 or 24 grams of protein to each can of Glucerna. I put it in a larger container mixed well and poured my 2 oz from it that I could drink every 2 hours. That way, I got in enough protein. The water was constant in between the protein drinks. This was the first 2 weeks until I was put on soft solids. Then it gets easier. Just remember to sip, sip, sip, not gulp, IT WILL HURT! Good luck. Oh and don't be too hard on yourself, it will get easier! I always called my nutritionist or emailed her if I had any questions or problems getting everything right. Lynne

I think you're doing just fine for 4 days out...my surgeon said just do the best you can for the first week after surgery, with the emphasis on water...after the first week or 10 days, it gets WAY easier to get the protein and water in. Just keep sipping sipping sipping. Congratulations...glad you're on the losing side! Pam 5'2" 282/168/145

Cathy, I think you are doing great. As the days go by things will get much easier to drink, you are such a newbie, I don't know of anyone that was able to do the 60- 70 grams a day so soon, shucks I am 11 weeks out and there are days I struggle. As long as you feel good just sip on , it will be okay. Allison
