Hi everyone, Went to 2 picnics today and ate watermelon...really nervous to see that I can ea****ermelon and eat and eat and eat...it must go right through the pouch because before I realized it tonight I had eaten 1/4 of a small seedless watermelon....not small maybe medium (10 inch in diameter.) So I thought 'it's watermelon, how bad can it be?'. ..got home and looked up the calories and I figure it to be about 400 and 80 carbs. OUCH Has anyone else tried wm and found that they can keep eating it and the pouch is fine. I vowed to not buy anymore of this tempting fruit (looooove it) and I also vowed not to buy anymore of the Viactiv Calcim Chews...I can eat them as well. I think it is pms making me crave the choc and carbs. ...I added up approx. 1200 calories today and I've not eaten over 900 any day since surgery. My fear is finding something like this that I can eat and it becoming my surgery downfall...you know at the end of the long workday when you are weak and not as in control as you normally are and you just want to sink into the couch and watch t.v. and eat...that sort of thing...anyone else out there experienced this fear?

Hey Jamey, I love watermellon too. I only buy the sliced kind that only has about 2 slices in it..Its so good...I worry all the time that I'm eating too much. Like yesterday, I had my first home grilled hamburger since my surgery in Feb 06. I could only eat 1/2 of it, then I ate the other 1/2 later, that morning I had a pkg of oatmeal and then a yogurt. I was so worried that I over ate.. I couldn't even see that I had actually ate 1/2 hamburger and didn't throw it up or my pouch feel like it was going to die... My sister was so happy to see me eat something, she made me another one today. I did the same, ate 1/2 now and then later. It was so good, but I'm afraid that I'll get used to them and try to eat more and more.. I don't know what to think...I'm still loosing, even without getting any exercise. My cast comes off this coming Monday, then I'll be able to walk at least, I can loose this wheel chair.. Woo Hooo...If you figure anything out about this stuff, let me know....Take Care, Sandi

Hi Misty, I'm preop, so I can't speak from personal experience, but from everything I read on every board I've been on, this is a very common fear. You've been through all of this and you don't want it to be for nothing. I think some of the postops further out can speak to this better than I. I would say 2 things on the watermelon however. One, no one ever got fat on watermelon alone. I know several people on other boards that can ea****ermelon, but still dump on most sugary things. The fact that you can eat that doesn't mean you won't dump on sugar. And two, it's probably not a good idea to totally deny yourself something that you know you can eat, and enjoy. So how about in the future, you buy a small container of pre sliced watermelon, where you can control the amount of it at the store, instead of trying to control it from home where it sits in the fridge calling your name? Just some thoughts. Take Care. ~Ellen

HI Ladies, I am also a feb surgery and I'm experiencing a bit of the same thing. I can eat a little more then I used to. I am also tempting fate and had somethings that are not carb friendly. I love fruit, I really think because it's watery and digests quickly, it doesn't make us as full as chicken or meat. I'm the same way with the hamburger, I cannot eat bread though. I love protien special k, i feel like i Eat too much of it, but i"m still losing slowly these days. Hence, I have a back problem so I think it's slowed me down. I just wanted you to know your not alone. I don't eat much carbs nor count them like I should. I do look at packages though and see what hte contents are before buying/eating them. Jennifer

Good Morning, Just wanted to chime in...I'm 1 year post op next week, so have a little experience in what you speak of...Watermelon is good, love it myself and eat it regularly when it is in season, the key is moderation - your Nut should have given you food guideline to follow - on my guideline a serving of water melon is 1 cup after youv'e gotten in all your protein serving (2-3 oz) and in place of other carbs you eat the fruit (which is better for you anyway)...So don't worry so much about eating the wonderful fruit but think how much to eat...On the hamberger, how big is the burger? 1/2 is probably 1 1/2 oz, for someone 3-4months post surgery, this is about normal - again referring to my Nut, my goal has been (for solid protein eaten, not drink) 2 oz protein @ breakfast, 2 - 2 1/2 oz @ lunch, and 3 oz @ dinner plus 1 oz on my 2-3 snacks a day - this is the ultimitate goal amount to eat @ 6+ months out...I'm I year out next week and exceeded my goal by 12lbs...I think you are doing fine and are on a good track for the right amount of food, most of us fear eating to much and think we are, more than once or twice...Again the key is to follow the guidelines (rules of the pouch) and listen to the your Dr & Nut, they can and will help you... you're doing awesome...keep up the good work Alesia 249/127(below goal)
