5 days post-op and Ensured out
Hey everyone! I made it, I'm finally post-op 5days. I have been on Ensure and Boost since surgery and it is about to make me gag. Anyone have suggestions for something other than ensure or boost? I think its the milk based things that are doing it to me.I'm doing good other than that, getting my water in like a good girl. Glad to be on the losing side.
HI Robin,
I feel your pain...still can't drink any protein shake with milk...for me I think it is the sweetness of the drinks...after surgery my tastes completely changed. Shortly after surgery I was reading the board and Adrienne Lazenby suggested the Isopure fruit drinks...they have no carbs and 40 grams of protein. I think there is a powder, but I buy them from the Vitamin Shoppe by the case in 20 ounce drinks. There are several flavors, but I only drink the Alpine Punch. They are not too sweet to me. Though I used to drink one a day, now I'm drinking them only if I need to supplement my protein daily. Off topic, I also have been eating an Atkins Cinnamon Bun Morning Start protein bar for breakfast for the past few weeks with no problems, but then suddenly this weekend I am finding them too sweet as well...they have 2 net carbs. I have tried low carb cereals and they are too sweet as well. They only naturally sweet food I haven't had sweet issues with is fruit...so far I can eat peeled apple, strawberries, canteloupe, and watermelon with no problems. Hope you find something that will work for you!

I'm having my surgery on June 20 and my doc recommends me to drink Ensure and Boost, however he said they have to be under 5 grams fo carbs and over 21 grams of protein. Well I can't seem to find either. All the Ensures and Boosts I find are high in cabs, even the "low carb" one. Unless I'm reading the label wrong. What kind were you drinking and were did you get it?
