Duodenal Switch vs. RNY

Hi All, Well, I went and saw Dr. V last week, had my psych eval (not sure why I was so afraid of that), and final exercize eval. I found out that my insurance does cover both types of surgery. Now I have to decide which one I want. I know a ton about the RNY, so that I feel like I have my arms around that one pretty good. But with the Switch the data is limited. Anybody here had the switch that they could tell me the good, bad and ugly of it? ANY FEEDBACK IS WELCOMED. Krista

I would look for a messageboard for that surgery type. Look under forums. I am sure OH has one for that type surgery. Good luck with your decision. Phenom

If you go to www.duodenalswitch.com, you will find a whole lot more information than you can find here on OH. Also, head on over to the OH DS board. We're the first listed on the surgery type forums. The DS is the only surgery that I would consider for myself, but I feel that I know about all the good, bad and ugly about it. Educate yourself, and decide what's right for you. I do suggest, however, that you choose a surgeon that is experienced in performing the DS. Not just any bariatric surgeon will do. The website I referred to above has a list of known DS surgeons with proven track records. Good luck!
