Very early good morning

A very early good morning. I'll be going to sleep shortly but thought I should say hi and check in. I'll be three months out on June 6 and feeling fairly well. Lost around 63 pounds (depending on whose scale I step on). Saw my surgeon (Dr. Cooke) Tuesday and he said everything seems fine. I am still battling with meats and throwing up a few times a week. I'm not doing too well with eating dinner with a friend and trying to hold a conversation. I did tonight and know it was from not chewing throroughly and talking and swallowing out of sync. And the thinnest part of me, my hair, has decided to leave me. Lots of hair is falling out and I've got very little to spare. I have been on mega doses of Biotin since October but it has not been the miracle drug I had hoped for. I have cut back considerably on my medications for diabetes, and hypertension. My insulin dosagehas gone from 200 units a day down to 26 units of Humulin N and no Novalog (I was at 120 units a day.) That feels so great to just take one shot a day ... and I'm sure that will dwindle down as I do. And I am rather enjoying having my clothes hanging on me. My tight 3Xs are now comfortable 1Xs, and my shoes are tightened as much as posibble and I'm down a size. Got I love that I have had this surgery. It's as close to a miracle as it can get. Well I'm beginning to doze off at the keyboard so I'll get going. Lots of love and thank you all for your support, Many blessings Maureen

Good Morning, everyone! I have 10 more days until my BIG day! I can't wait! Today is the 4th day of my liquid diet. It is going pretty good. I find myself getting a little low on patience with my children. Of course, that could also been the "end of the school year stress" (I am a Kindergarten teacher). If anyone has any advice for the liquids, please let me know. I hope you have a great day! Susan

Hi Dee - Well, I miscalculated by one day (opps! ) My surgery is actually in 11 days. I guess I am thinking that I only have 10 days left of my liquid diet! I haven't really gotten nervous, yet. I am finishing out the school year (I teach Kindergarten and today is my last day of work!! ) and once I get through with work, I know that the excitement and nerves will start setting in. That is awesome that you have been "carbless" since the end of March. That is quite an accomplishment! I am having my surgery at Presby, but I have a friend who will be having her surgery at Mercy on June 7th. Her name is Kelly. You'll have to look for her. I wish you the best! Keep in touch! Susan

Hi Maureen I'm so glad to hear from you!!! Keep us posted...so glad to hear you're doing well and congratulations on 63 pounds...that's awesome!...sorry about your hair. Have you tried Zinc with the Biotin? I'll tell you what, I have been so worried about my hair because I have naturally thin hair so I researched and am doing everything (proven or not) that I've seen that could possibly prevent the hairloss, though I'm not counting on the loss not happening (expect the worst, hope for the best I am taking Zinc and Biotin supplements, using Nioxin shampoo everyday, making sure to get the water and protein everyday, and I've been using Rogaine since way before surgery because I have genetic issues in my family with thinning hair with age. I went to have my hair cut on Tuesday this week and my beautician said she couldn't believe how much thicker my hair was since the last time I had seen her. I have noticed that it is healthier and I've chalked it up to all of the vitamins and healthy eating, but I'm hesitantly hoping one of these things or a combination of them is going to help with the hairloss in the future...so hoping, but not counting on it...I will be sure to post if it does start falling out...it will be hard to deal with since it is already naturally thin...but worth it in the long run....I hear from others that it will eventually stop so we'll just have to get through it eh? Lots of love, Jamey

Regarding hair loss...my best friend is 5 years out from her surgery and said she lost a lot of hair at first, but that it recovered completely after about 18 months. Hopefully, it'll be the same or better for you guys too. best to you! Lisa
