Hello everyone, I am new to Havelock, North Carolina and I have been interested in WLS for some time now. I have been trying to loose weight on my own for what seems like 100 years. I really would like to find out local WL Surgeons in this area as well as support groups.

Hello Lauren, I'll do my best to direct you to the site you need. When you entered this message board...at the very top are choices, one being Forums....select Forums. Then, below, to the immediate left (in blue on my screen) are more selections. There is an area where you can type in your state and will show the surgeons in your area. I hope I have not totally confused you. It took me a while to get used to the different sites and I'm still learning. I live in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. I will be going to Monterrey, Mexico for my lapband in September. Hopefully, seeing a doctor in Wilmington for my fills. Best of luck, Carol Slate

:auren Welcome to NC...hope you like us. Others will probably say I am way off base but I would truly recommend that you find a dr at one of the larger hospitals that have a wls program. I would recommend Greenville, (Pitt Memorial), Duke or Chapel Hill. As the 1st post mentioned, you can find the doctors names per her directions. I personally went to Pitt Memorial. I had my surgery April 4th of this year. It is a very long process no matter which dr or hospital you choose. They are all VERY strict per insurance requirements. Good luck and keep us posted. Diane

Hello Lauren, Welcome to NC...I live in the next town over from you, New Bern (about 20 minutes away)...I had RNY with an awesome surgeon - Dr. Brady Way, he is a retired Navy Reserve doctor and I was referred to him by my PCM/surgeon @ Cherry Point...His office is close to you in Morehead and he uses Carteret General Hospital...I can give you his office phone if you would like it...I have heard there are several good surgeons in Greenville, but the waitlist there is almost 2years long now...it was 3 months from the 1st time I saw Dr. Way to the day of my surgery, also he has an excellent support group set up that meets once a month for pre & post ops, its the 2nd thursday, 6:30 in the hospital cafeteria if you would like to talk to some other people who have been there or are considering it...E-mail me personally if you have any other questions...As for myself, I am almost 1 year post-op, at goal and extremely happy with my decision to have bypass...Welcome once again to NC, it is a great and beautiful place to live... Welcome to NC. You also might want to consider looking at East Carolina University. They have been doing the surgery the longest. Also, if you want to travel this far, Dr. Tim Farrell at UNC - Chapel Hill is great. I can give you his phone number. Dottie
