Hi everyone I havent posted here much , and it's been several weeks since I last visited. Though I love this site and everyone is super nice and helpful ,,, I just kind of didn't want to think about being overweight anymore. Strange I know , as if I can aviod knowing! I contacted my insurance company for info and their responce was , my ins does NOt cover any type of weight loss surgery. I have Wellpath select HMO. So I dont know where to go from here. Is it possible to get an approval w/ my isurance? If not what next? Who can help? I am totally open to any suggestions TIA!

I had Wellpath when I started looking into the surgery and I was told the same thing. I changed insurance plans at my company's next open enrollment. It took a year and much waiting, but it seems like a lifetime ago.

Blue Cross offers individual plans in NC (not sure if they cover WLS or not) only other option would be self-pay.

Tia - I was in your same position when I first decided to persue WLS...I had Wellpath Select HMO. They would not pay under any cir****tance. My DH works for the city of Charlotte, sp we waited until open enrollment and change to Aetna. I was approved after completing their required 3 month presurgical program and my surgery is on June 5th! I wish you the best. Susan

Hello Nee-Nee, My insurance turned me down also, end if subject, I tried , and tried but they would not . Soooo I had a choice to have a heart attack and die before I turn 45 ( according to my doctor ) or self pay, so I gathered to together from here and there and paid myself . Hospital bill was $16,000 doctor was $8,400 being able to wear a size 18 again PRICELESS I thank The lord I was able to pay myself, and I also pray that anyone who needs this life saving surgery will be able to have it. It is a sad thing that insurance companys now decide on our health not our doctors. Good Luck Allison
