Hi ya'll, My Name is Carla and I am moving in two weeks to Maggie Valley, NC from Springfield, MO. I was wondering if there are any support groups that meet near by, and if there is a good bariatric surgeon nearby as well? Any info would help, thanks in advance and nice to meet you all. Carla

I can't help you as far as dr's or support groups but I have to say Maggie Valley is one of the MOST beautiful places in ALL OF NC. I live in Jacksonville NC (on the coast) and we go to Maggie Valley every year. 2 x's a year if we can. I hope you find it as beautiful and peaceful as we do. Welcome to NC Diane in NC

Hi Carla, I live in Asheville, NC about 40 miles outside of Maggie Valley. Welcome to the area!! There is a psychologist in Waynesville, NC - maybe 15-20 miles from Maggie (it's fairly close) named Janice Joy, I believe the name of her practice is Haywood Counseling. She did my psychological eval prior to surgery, she has a support group that meets once a month on Saturday mornings. She has had WLS and I thought she was terriffic. I can't find her number right now but I will continue to search for it and when I come up with it, I'll forward it to you. I would love to attend her support group meetings but Saturday morning is just not good for me. As far as bariatric surgeons in the area goes, I went to Hickory, NC to Dr Monty Cox at Hickory Surgical Clinic. I wasn't impressed with the programs in the Asheville area. If I can be of further assistance, feel free to contact me....my e-mail address is [email protected]. And again, welcome to wonderful western North Carolina! Tiffany

Hey guys, thanks for the welcomes. I love the Maggie Valley area, it is very beautiful and when my husband and I visited his parents here we decided that is where we wanted to be and retire. However I have quite a few years before I can retire, I am working on getting a teaching degree so I can be a teacher. I has been hard going back to school after being out for 20 years. Tiffany any information that you have would be great. And maybe we can get together for a coffee or something. We are leaving the beautiful Ozark Mountains (which are really only hills) compared to the Smokey Mountains but it is going to be a great move. Thanks again guys and I hope I can get to posting more often. Thanks, Carla
