I'm in  the process of reading an article about new way to curb appetite.   It makes sense and sounds like a safer way to weight loss than stapling and such.

I had lap band Jan 4th. From reading other responses, it sounds like a personal choice. I wish I had had the gastric by pass.  I watch my friends with the weight just falling off and mine is so slow.  I was probably not a good candidate for lap band because I am a snacker, but my surgeon felt that at age 68, he didn't want to do a by pass on me and because I only needed to loose about 80 to 90 pounds.

I immediately lost about 25 pounds and then it has slowed to a crawl of nothing for the last month, but I am off of all but one small dose of medication for BP, stopped all diabetes meds and have had no reflux problems.  I did start heavy exercise too soon and had a lot of pain in my left side below the ribs.  I worried I had actually damaged something.

So, after no matter which you have, start with just walking for a few months, no crunches like I did.  I was fine before then. It all really major surgery.

Good luck,  I would do it all again.

Topic: RE: MGB vs Sleeve
HI Kim,

I am seeking information about the MGB, but my reasons are different,
When I had my surgery in 2005 the doctor explained to me the RNY, after 6 years I had lost 150 pounds which has been a great success but still I am considered obese, so I went back for a revision and since this is a different Doctor from the one that did my surgery, she wanted me to have some test done. Yesterday I went to her office to go over the results, and to my surprise and hers I never had the RNY and had the MGB. Now we are wondering our options if this is the problem my weightloss has stahled or is it that I wont be able to loose more weight. So many questions, when u look at the MGB the way they cut the stomach is very different a when it is cut in RNY. The MGB the stomach is cut kinda long ways like an original stomach isso after the years the pouch will stretch like it's original form, with RNY it is a smaller round pouch and it looks like when it gets to stretch is not as much, I don't know yet what will happen and which one is best. BUt when I went into surgery I went with one type of surgery in mind and now I found out they did a different one without me knowing, taking away my choice of what I asked for. And it is true when I looked up MGB that is the only doctor that comes up , and I checked with different search engine , so not sure how much this doctor is paying these company to be the first one to come up,.Anyway I sure don;t have an answer for your case but did wanted to share my observations and my case at this point. Wish you luck and if intrested I can keep you posted.

Here's one... Chris Medina wrote and performs What are Words. It touched my heart and soul. I hope it touches yours as well. It's about loving someone no matter what. Good times and bad. Yeah I think everyone gets nervous with a surgery like this one. I  went ahead and did some research or dr. ponce de leon. He kinda convinces me more than the doctor I had chosen. I really don’t wanna take your time… but it would really help me if you tell me how  your surgery went =) pain? Nurses? The house they take you to? Any info would help .. thanx Julie! =) and im glad your doing so well =) keep up the work! =)

My partner had the gastric bypass 6 years ago, lost 100 pounds quickly over the first 6 months post op,  but has put back 30 pounds over the year.....She has had success but she wishes she had the lab band because it can be tightened...

I have the band and I'm glad I did the band and not the bypass....

Good luck with your decision!

I had the lapband surgery 8 years ago. I spent most of 2009 in and out of hospitals because the lap band perferated my stomach. I almost died. Since then I have heard of 27 more cases of the same problems from within my state. There could be a lot more but I have no way of checking other states. Go with bypass. I lost weight with the lap band but have since gained it back and more. The lap band weight loss is gradual not quickly like the bypass. Good luck.
