Topic: 5 Days Post Op Gastric Bypass
It truly doesn't seem like its been 5 days since my surgery at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. There have been pros and cons, but for this particular post, I just want you all to know, that I made it through. It's been 5 days and I'm back to normal life.

There were so many questions I didn't think to ask, didn't know I needed to ask, so many things I had no idea where important and didn't see discussed, but was always someone here on this forum to jump in at a moments notice for support... day or night.

On Facebook, I gave up to the minute details even as I was about to be wheeled in to the operating room. (My phone wouldn't let me log into this site, as I don't have a smart phone. I'll cut and paste it at a later date.

Advice to the pre-ops...

1) Give it GREAT thought b4 jumping into this. Just because you've been to all the doctor appointments, taken all the tests and have been trying for a very long time to get your insurance company to approve you, doesn't mean you have to go through with it. Just like a wedding. Once you're in... in you're in!

2) Once you've made that decision and are in the operating room. Batton down the hatches. You're in for a bumpy 2 days. PROS: You'll make it through, no matter what you're thinking at that stage.

There's so much more I need to sa y and I'll do so as soon as possible:)

Remember... Protein is your friend:) lol

Topic: RE: Difference between MGB and RNY Gastric Bypass?
Hi,

Actually there are several different types of bypass.  Some are not as affective as others.  Yes, you probably should research the different types.  If you go to the main OH page and pull down the forums menu on top, you will see many forums set up for each of these procedures and then you can chat with folks about their experiences. You should be confident that you made the right choice for you before committing to ANY surgery.

The RNY and the MGB differ in this way.  The MGB does not require the "Y" connection and bypasses up to 6' of the small intestines.  The RNY, I think, only bypasses about 13 inches.  You can read more about the MGB at http://clos.net and learn more.

Good luck on your research.

I'm confused as to the difference between the Mini gastro bypass surgery and the Roux-en-Y gastro bypass surgery.  I'm hoping someone here can explain the difference to me.  I'm scheduled for surgery on the 28th of this month and didn't realize there were different types of gastric bypass surgeries.  Now I'm left wondering which one I'm having.

Topic: RE: Gastric bypass surgery for what?
Never heard of it.  We try to think of eating choices as sensible, healthy and balanced options.  Coffee and tea have their place in culinary and medicinal areas. I don't mind an occasional mocha and do love herbal teas which have a TON of medicinal properties.  Being an herbalist, I do see how we may take many of our food options for granted and don't really look at the benefits and lack of them.

If you are not yet a follower of the Serge Kreutz diet, consider my advice on coffee and tea.

Coffee and tea both rightfully rank high on the list of human culinary preferences. Both are enjoyed worldwide.

While coffee and tea have completely different tastes, they share the fact that they are mentally stimulating in the same category as amphetamines, though milder in typical dosages.

Nevertheless, caffeine and theobromine are poisons, and anything beyond small quantities are detrimental to sexual function, especially of male consumers.

On the other hand, the flavors of coffee and tea are so superb that they have to be considered an aroma therapy for the smell as well as the taste receptors.

All aroma therapies do have an effect on the mind, no doubt, and by allowing us to play with our senses, they are sensualizing, and that's almost always conducive to better sex.

As you can see, there is need to differentiate between coffee and tea in the mouth, and coffee and tea in the gut.

In the mouth, it's all positive. In the further digestive system, it's almost all negative.

I love coffee and tea. I do consume substantial quantities of both. In the mouth. Not in the gut.

I use coffee and tea every day, all day. If I would swallow all these quantities, I would suffer from severe tachycardia, extreme insomnia, erectile dysfunction, and, after some time, heart disease, kidney disease, and mental disorders.

Alas, I consume all this coffee and tea in the Serge Kreutz diet style. Spit it, don't **** it.

I drink coffee and tea without swallowing it. I keep it in my mouth for a moment, and return it into a side container for fluids to be discarded.

ANYWAY...

If you carefully examine the tastes of coffee and teas, you will notice that both mostly are aftertastes. They materialize not while you have them in your oral cavity, but only after they have left the mouth, either by having been swallowed or by having been spit out.

You can test this yourself. For the taste of coffee or tea, it makes absolutely no difference

whether you swallow it or spit it. Either way, the taste of coffee and tea is strongest after they are gone, and after they are gone, they will last for a minute or so, with a steady rate of disappearance.

My stomach isn't the trash can for things I have put into my mouth for oral and mental excitement. The trah can is outside of my body.

The fundamental principle of the Serge Kreutz diet is the differentiation between food for the mouth and food for the gut.

So, in one meal, I can have coffee for the mouth, but only pure water for the stomach and onward organs.

And if so inclined, you can have black forest tart with the coffee in and out the mouth, but the water that reaches the stomach will be accompanied only by a few bites of dry bread (if you are not sensitive to gluten and similar proteins), or just some spoonfuls of plain, entirely unspiced white rice, followed by a few bites of fruit.

I do prefer some plain white rice among the substances I pass to my stomach because it is so easy on the digestive system. I prefer plain white rice with water as stomach filler when I feast on cheese, olives, and red wine, all of which I never pass through the esophagus to the stomach, but discard after having enjoyed the taste.

In the field of food consumption, the Serge Kreutz diet is a revolution akin to the arrival of the contraceptive pill in the field of sexual consummation.

Sex is not primarily for procreation; it is for sensation.

Likewise, nutrition is a minor aspect of eating. The primary one is the pleasurable sensation of tastes.

Topic: RE: Can anyone recommend MGB surgeons in Mexico?
Once again.  I had my Band surgery done in 2006 with Dr. "V" and his clinic in TJ, MX.  The band was placed and I immediately had complications.  I could not even swallow my own saliva.  They used intimidation tactics and their expertise to manipulate me into additional surgeries and procedures over the course of one year.  I was so extremely malnourished and dehydrated I lost my ability to create speech.  Furthermore,  I was assaulted be his "Team of Surgeons" leaving me permanently dis figured and crippled for the rest of my life.  I have reached out to him with CT scans,  photos and lengthy descriptions of my injuries as a direct result of this crime.  He has of course never contacted me to help me to regain my normal anatomy which was stolen Via Surgical attack while under his care.
This "Assault" took place a few hours post band removal.  I was in overnight recovery and a special team was brought into the clinic for the specific purpose of Harvesting  genital tissues from my body without my consent.  I am still awaiting a sincere response from him and have been devastated beyond anyone's imagination.
It has been five long painful years and I am still waiting to hear from him.
Will he understand the injustice and intentional maiming that was done to me?
 Probably not!
I trusted him as my Doctor and Advisor.  Why was this done to me?  Why won't he help me?
 Why?  Why?  Why?
Soy una bien cliente,  y no deserven esso mal tratimento.

Topic: Support Group Meeting this Saturday

I am hosting a support group meeting this Saturday in Raleigh NC. This month I will be talking about managing the challenges of the upcoming holidays. I will share some recipes and welcome others to share recipes that they enjoy.

I also invite people to engage in a clothing swap. Many people find that they are no longer able to wear gently warn clothing that may benefit others in the group. If you have some things and would like to participate, please do. Please be sure to take with you any items that you bring that are not selected by others. If you do want to keep the items, you can take them to Thrift Store and a Goodwill within a mile of the support group location.

If you more details about the meeting, please go to www.meetup.com/nc-wls.
