The main reason I chose the MGB is because it is reversable and revisable. I liked the approval process that is in place. It prepares you and your family and educates everyone about the procedure. Once the 12 steps are complete, support systems are set in place. It was later that I learned all the other benefits associated with the MGB and embraced it. It has been eleven years ago and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you go to http://clos.net, you will find some comparisons. However, everyone will tell you that their surgery is the best. That is because they are satisfied with their choice. Some will say no, don't do this one or that one. So you will find the negatives if you look and the positives as well.
I am sure you will make the right choice for you.
Hi, I am sorry you are having a hard time! I had the MGB and it has been amazing for me. I have never, ever regretted the decision. I had the option of having insurance pay for the RNY with a local doctor, and chose instead to take out a loan and have the MGB. Yes, I DID MY RESEARCH! Everything I found out made me even more definite that the MGB was right for me. It was safer, which was the biggest determining factor for me.
I have had tremendous success, had surgery in 2003 and am less than half my original size at around 165LBS. I am now finally looking into having some plastic surgery to get my body to where it should be after massive weight loss.
Feel free to e-mail me off line at kmlenhardt at hotmail dot com and please put mini gastric bypass in subject line as I do get lots of junk mail that's hard to sift through.
Hang in there and do what YOU think is the right thing for you!

Question 1: My question is: What are the Main Reasons that You Opted for MGB over other WLS options (NOT including insurance coverage as I have no insurance). Feel free to mention other options you considered, what your deciding factors were etc. Im happy to take in as much input as you are willing to share.
Be advised that I may sort of "re-ask" this question later with regard to my own personal factors/cir****tances but for now I just want to weigh some of the general pros and cons compared to other methods based on your experiences as part of my due dilligence.
Question 2: Is there a compiled list or spreadsheet of pros/cons/things to consider or even questions to ask associated with the different types of WLS that I could view somewhere?
Looking forward to hearing your replies! Thanks, Angela
If you DO have plans CANCEL them! Just kidding! You should know you will miss hanging out with a lot of positive, motivational, supportive and FUN people.
Everyone is welcome, this group is not limited to one certain weight loss surgery, it is open to pre-ops, post-ops, those thinking about weight loss surgery, and those who just in general need some type of accountability.
For more information about the meeting please click here to see the original post.
Hope to see you there!
You are asking a lot for your body to endure all at once. I don't know if you will find any doctor that would do all that at the same time without some risks. Good luck.
((hug))
Yea people who haven't done THEIR research will tell you it's a bad surgery. There is so much documentation out there to prove otherwise. This surgery is being done all over the world with fantastic results. Very few gain their weight back and barring any other complication, have great success. All surgeries have their risks.
Hang in there. The nay sayers will always be out there regardless of what the issue or topic is.
