Topic: RE: Share the Reasons You Personally Opted for MGB....
LOL...Don't want to bombard anyone?? Girlllllllllll....On this site, we are like family. That's WHY we are on here, to find out stuff, get support and help each other out!! PUH-LEASE! I have only been on here since November and I've already had 'virtual' arguments, been depressed, been so excited that I almost pee'd my pants (ok, maybe I did tinkle, but just a little, LOLOLOL), poured my heart out (to only get it stepped on), and 'virtually' held the hand of someone who was depressed...but yet, folks come out of the woodwork to support me, give me virtual hugs and have my back! Be forewarned though, some folks are harsh and they 'think' that they know everything there is to know about every surgery (and the one that THEY had is the better one, LOL). They will say things that will hurt your feelings, and you think to yourself "I just won't say anything any more"...but for every nay-sayer there is someone out there that will 'hug' you and make you feel better. Some folks will say to listen to 'us' and not your doctor, "he's just a surgeon"...I don't know about the facility that 'they' used, but the facility that I use is a team. I have my nutritionist, surgeon (of course), counselor, support groups, 'Helpful Suggestion' groups, lab team...I have the whole enchilada, and I love it! Use this website as a tool - just like your WLS will be. You will be a success story!!!! You've already taken the hardest step...realizing that you want to have the surgery.

Ask away! Ask anything you want. My biggest help, in all seriousness, is looking at the Before & After pictures. When I feel like I just can't do it, I look at those pictures and think "I bet they thought the same thing"

Best of luck and KEEP US POSTED!!

Thanks ShoutJoy!

So I think I'm going to opt for March. I think I will die (like a kid waiting on Christmas, LOL) if I have to wait until May...LOL

Hi,

Many folks are ok after a few days.  Just a little discomfort at the port sites.  I'd give it a week and you should be fine.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Thanks...and it was helpful too! :)

I may be able to get approval from my professors to be out another week. I'll wait until I get the approval before asking though. ((the only class that I am worried about is my Anatomy/Physiology class...that class is already kicking my butt!!)) My schedule is weird...Tuesday (3 hours), Wednesday (1 hour), Friday (that's a 6 hour day...WHEW) and Saturday (3 hours)

:0)

I had a different surgery than you are looking at, but the times all seem to be similar. I was completely out for 2-3 days. I work at home so I was back very limited for the next few days. I probably could have been back nearly full time, but I had some nasty abdominal muscle pain (which doesn't seem to be typical) so I took drugs longer. I'd say 1-2 weeks, just depends... I know, not very helpful. I would plan on 2 weeks though just to be sure.

Thank you Lisa, I appreciate the input!

Angela,

I chose MGB because:

I have friends that have had it done and I am happy with their results, and so are they.
It is less invasive
It only has 1 connection point to the intestines, which means a lesser chance of leaks
I have emailed folks that have had the RNY and MGB and Lap-Band. Everyone is happy with their surgery, but the MGB folks seem to have a better recovery time

Do your research, talk to the professionals, ASK questions!

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

Lisa

P.S......ShoutJoy is one of my favorite folks on this site. She is a great resource and she is very kind and knowledgable in her responses! You may want to be-friend her if you haven't already. (and no, she didn't pay me to say that...yet) (smile)

Right now, I'm in the process of getting approval from insurance for my surgery. I know the next question that the doctor's office will ask is when I want to have the surgery.

I am currently a housewife (PC for unemployed, LOL) & college student. I would like to have the surgery over Spring Break (2nd weekend in March), but if I'm going to be out of commission for more than a week, I will have to opt for May.

I need your advice/feedback. How long were you out of work/commission?

Thanks Angela appreciate the info, Being a creature of habit I enjoy my grazing in the evening and stop by 9pm in general. The only issue I have had is the shaky hands (slight tremor) and the perspiration on my forehead which seems like the body is in shock. I have not let my self go to where I am gobbling 4 big macs for a snack but will eat something when I feel this come on. As for my weights its been the same now for over 8months so I have not gained anything fortunately. Many thanks again, Napoli
