Topic: RE: Gained 1 lb during soft food phase?
Hi,
Don't worry. Weight will fluxuate. I would suggest, just a suggestion, that you use your clothes as a guide to weight loss. More rewarding, less painful. When you are able to exercise, it should help. Hang in there!!

What the heck?! I gained 1 lb during soft food phase! What a downer. I am now on chewy foods and I am thinking it was because I wasn't quite able to exercise yet since my surgery was OPEN and not LAP. Went for a nice long walk today and I felt pretty good. Didn't feel dizzy. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Lisa,
I know that my surgeon has had to give some of his patients a hormone patch for just a short time because of this. I didn't have a normal surgery either so I know how you are feeling. Luckily though, I was already taking depression medication so I didn't need anything. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about. But if you can hang in there for a few more days I promise you will get to feeling better. Take care and I am here if you need to talk.

Thank you. I'm going to venture out to Wal-Mart today, that's usually a comedy in itself (smile)

Hi,
Sorry you had such a hard time with your surgery. I am sure that was depressing in itself. Yes, depression after surgery is common, any kind of surgery really.
Rent a funny movie, or go to an animal shelter and get some pet therapy or get a friend to play a game with you. Laughter is great medicine. Once those pounds start coming off, you will feel a whole lot better.

Topic: Depression after surgery...
I just wanted to see if anyone else is going through, or has gone through my current state of mind.
Last Wednesday, March 14, I had MGB. I was discharged on Thursday, but went back to the doctor on Friday because of severe pain. They ended up doing emergency surgery. Part of my small intestines had kinked up and caused a major blockage. So needless to say, my surgery experience wasn't ideal. I was discharged yesterday. Physically I'm fine. Still a little sore, but that's to be expected.
My problem is...I'm so sad...depressed.
Is this normal?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
