Hi! Yes, I saw it. We've been talking about it on the MGB website for months, and I've been patiently waiting. I thought the show was fantastic!
Topic: Anyone see "Action Hero Makeover" on Discovery Health Channel last night?
It was almost surreal to hear the words "Mini Gastric Bypass" on television! I thought the show was well done. I was impressed with Gil Gerard's openess and honesty in discussing his struggle with weight. It will be on again Jan 13 at 7PM Eastern.

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a terrible experience, my heart goes out to you.
I'm getting a takedown of my rny in a few weeks now. It has been a nightmare since I had it done a little over three years ago: constant nausea, vomiting, anemia and malnutrition. I had one revision which didn't help at all (actually things only got worse). It's been so bad that I'm ready to regain the weight as long as I can eat again. What should I expect immediately after my takedown? How long till I can actually eat? Do the nausea and vomiting get better?
Topic: RE: MGB surgeons in California?
I think the closest site to you right now is Vegas, but I heard there might be a California site opening in the future. Go to www.clos.net to check it out.
I had mine done in Michigan and am extremely happy!!
I was self-pay. I didn't even try to get approved from my insurance because they don't cover out of network at all and they only cover bariatric surgery 50%, after an 18-month physician-supervised diet! Yeah, right!
Topic: MGB surgeons in California?
I am interested in finding out if anyone has had the MGB in the SF bay area, and if so, who was your surgeon and how hard was it to get insurance approval for this? I have the lap band in, but haven't been very successful with it.
Thanks, Joan
Topic: RE: Mini Gastric Bypass vs Lap RNY
Have your friend go to www.clos.net and download the patient manual. It's listed on the left side of the website near the bottom. It explains most of the popular gastric surgeries with diagrams to see the difference.
The complication rate of the MGB is much lower than RNY. The statistics are posted on the website also.
Also, one of the main benefits is the surgery only makes one new connection, not two like in the RNY. So less chance for problems at the connection site.
Tell her to research all the different surgeries. That way she can make an informed decision. There are many more happy people with MGB than those who have had trouble. As is the case in all gastric bypass surgeries. There will always be complications in some.
Good luck.
Topic: Mini Gastric Bypass vs Lap RNY
Hello,
My friend is looking into having the mini. I was wondering how the mini gastric bypass compares to the lap RNY? Is the only advantage a quicker surgery, recovery time, less blood loss, etc. or is there a long term benefit?
Thanks for any input.

Topic: RE: BALLROOM EXERCISE
What a great idea! I used to teach ballroom dancing and have missed it so much...I'm planning to get back into it but haven't made the time yet! :-)
Good luck with your group classes!
